You can’t build muscle in a calorie deficit.
That’s what I was always told.
Obviously I have shown that that statement is completely inaccurate.
And one of the main tools to building muscle and maintaining it while in a calorie deficit for me has been Branched Chain Amino Acids or BCAA from @1stphorm .

Got after it this morning. SkiErg rounds as a warm-up. Followed by KB Windmills paired w/ pull-up variations. Swings and bell side up KB Presses. More pull-ups and chest work (flyes, push-ups). Not a bad start to the day. #committosomething

Guess what day it is?! It's #workoutwednesday and #humpday , hitting 2 birds with 1 stone with these exercises! 👊🏼💪😂 If you do not have the hip abduction and adduction cable machines DON'T WORRY because I have you covered!
I have not done these in a long time and didn't really think I could but the other day I decided to improvise a little since I had to do them because they were on my new workout program! 👊🏼👌 So for the hip abduction you are going to want to clip the cables on the inside of your legs and I like to think I am pulling with the outside of my foot and OOOHHH MY, I got a killer glute pump after this! 😂 Also another thing GUYS don't sleep on working out your glutes because 1, girls will love it and 2, it will improve your squat! 💪
NOW for hip adduction you want to do the opposite. Clip it on the outside of your leg and think like you a pulling with the inside of your foot. Also if you suck at balancing like me you will want to hold onto something like I am, I used a broomstick and it worked pretty good! You are going to also want to make sure you are engaging you core in both movements and make sure you are not wobbling all of the place as you will most likely cause injuries! Regardless of how wise you think you are by now and how old you are...Life never stops teaching. I'm grateful for my cutie roommate that reminds me every morning how blessed I really am. Don't sleep on these toddlers now some of them can really school us my beautiful people!!!
After some trips on both our ends and Brooke's classes calming down a bit, it's time to get back on schedule! Brooke (my blind athlete) worked on her Strict Press today..
Visualization comes down to touch and feel. We start by me demonstrating the setup position of the movement. Allowing her time to get a "feel" for the static starting position. From there we move dynamically, making sure to move slowly throughout the movement..
Verbal is incredibly important. I do my best to describe every aspect of the movement while she is touching my moving body parts. This allows her to build a much better picture in her mind of what's going on..
Finally the execution. Starting at a very light and manageable weight, she performs the movement. Just like any other athlete, I give her the cues verbally. This is also he best way for me to incorporate tactile cues as well with slight touches to areas she needs to focus on..
Working with an adaptive athlete is the greatest. Sure sits awesome to see elite athletes lift heavy weights and perform amazing feats with their bodies. But the utter respect I have for Brooke and her willingness to be better can't be compared. She's taught me patience in my coaching as well as detail orientation that can't be equated by coaching anyone else..

Okay y’all.. this shit is crazy. Little over 1 week difference! Same weight, and I had a binge eating and drinking weekend this past weekend. You know what’s changed??? I’m taking care of my body! Everyone has goals. Dreams. Things they desire. Maybe you’ve tried to go after these goals and life got in the way. You had to put them on the back burner.
Maybe you had to leave them behind for years. What happened when you finally remembered them and you were in a comfortable place?
You might say you were too old to start.
The biggest excuse I hear is, “ I don’t have time”.
Really you don’t have time to work on you’re own goals, dreams, and desires? I actually used to say this a lot. I will admit there are people who might not have time, but if you want to accomplish anything you need to take a step back and think: How am I using my time?
When I did this I was amazed at how much time I wasted. I was lying to myself. I would spend so much time on social media or watching Netflix or playing video games. It was not a matter of time it was a matter of priorities.
I think the biggest thing people should take away from this is, don’t don’t spend your days working for someone else and then not work on yourself. You’re not too old to start and you probably have enough time you just need to manage it better.#neversettle

I think there is a lot of misconception as to what, how, or why you would need them.
They are not a replacement for protein.
They DO contain 3 of the essential amino acids, leucine, ISO-leucine and valine.
If there was a construction site(your muscles), the BCAAs serve as the foreman who shows up to get the site ready for construction but doesn't actually do the construction. That's done by proteins.
To have an effective dose of BCAAs and not just waste your money, you need at least 5 grams.
BCAAs from @1stphorm have 7.5 grams per serving.
I use them intraworkout to help my muscles from breaking down, especially with my morning workouts when I haven't eaten since the night before.
They are also good for someone who may be in a calorie deficit before a show or someone trying to cut a lot of weight.
