Alight fellas 2017 is about to end. That's my change of the year. Went from 93 kg and 17% bodyfat (picture on the left) to 86 kg and 12% bodyfat (picture on the right). All I did this year was to go on a diet (from 93 kg to 80 kg) and then started to add up mass again (from 80kg to 86kg). I also increased my protein intake because I basically only ate 1kg rice a day when I went up for the 93kg.🤣 So now I'm at 500g rice and 1,2kg chicken a day which is about 370g protein (with 250g low fat quark and 100g protein powder). Don't get me wrong you don't need to eat 370g protein a day, especially if you're just starting, but FOR ME it's also not a bad thing to do since my body is able to use it. Have a great one and stay consistent! 💪

Interval training is by far one of the most effective training methods 👏🏼 not only for fat burning but also for your fitness levels (especially for endurance & endurance specific sports). The short bursts even enhance your muscles ability to respond quicker making you quicker & efficient in your movement. During intervals you need to working at 80% of your VO2 max meaning your heart rate should get upto 170-200bpm. Everyone’s high intensity will be different based on current fitness levels so there’s no one size fits all as you which speed or incline you should be on. So try 30-40 secs sprinting & give yourself 30secs-1min rest (active recovery). It should be challenging & you need to step out of your comfort zone. Which is why I add in the dreaded burpees in between sometimes 😝😓. This can be performed on any piece of cardio equipment for an effective training session. I usually try and give myself an aim of around 6 sprints & the last 5 I increase intensity by doing burpees in between sprints 😓 #cardio #training #getitdone #getasweaton #pt #personaltrainer #mindset #fitness #levels #pushyourself #intervaltraining #hiit #highintensity #treadmill #sprints #functional #burpees #fatloss #musclebuilding #strong #fit #body #strongmind

Bodyweight exercises get a bad rap from most gym-goers. Why do push ups when you can bench press? Do squat jumps really build my leg muscles as well as squats?
If you are solely focused on building as much muscle mass as possible, these people have a point – but if your priority is to add some muscle while also stripping away fat to build a bigger and leaner body, then bodyweight exercises can have a big role to play. And none more so than the burpee. This move works your  arms, back, chest, core, glutes and  legs – you name it, it works it. 
I should point out that there is no pleasant way to do burpees. Whether you do them for time or total reps before you get a breather, your heart will be thumping in your chest, your lungs will be on fire, and every muscle will be screaming for you to stop. That’s the bad news.

But the good news is this is exactly what’s required if you want to change your body for the better – you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone and there's no better move to do that than the burpee. Not least because it doesn’t require any kit, meaning you can do some burpees any time and anywhere to turn your body into a fat-burning machine.
I managed 12 in sixty seconds. Wimpy I know but my goal is to double that over the next week. Who's with me?

Bodyweight exercises get a bad rap from most gym-goers. Why do push ups when you can bench press? Do squat jumps really build my leg muscles as well as squats? If you are solely focused on building as much muscle mass as possible, these people have a point – but if your priority is to add some muscle while also stripping away fat to build a bigger and leaner body, then bodyweight exercises can have a big role to play. And none more so than the burpee. This move works your  arms, back, chest, core, glutes and  legs – you name it, it works it. I should point out that there is no pleasant way to do burpees. Whether you do them for time or total reps before you get a breather, your heart will be thumping in your chest, your lungs will be on fire, and every muscle will be screaming for you to stop. That’s the bad news. But the good news is this is exactly what’s required if you want to change your body for the better – you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone and there's no better move to do that than the burpee. Not least because it doesn’t require any kit, meaning you can do some burpees any time and anywhere to turn your body into a fat-burning machine. I managed 12 in sixty seconds. Such a fabulous bunch of women and I have so loved these sessions, even if I hate Burpees and swear a lot. Maria Duncan, you are amazing! When I started this year I couldn't do one Burpee, one sit-up or a push-up and this morning, I managed to keep up and not die. Plus I even did everything on the Christmas list 10 times non stop for 8 mins! I couldn’t have even done it all for 1 minute when I started! #bbgweek2round2legs done and dusted. I’m so proud of my gym buddy, she is seriously killing it! This was today’s equipment needed, if I never have to do another lunge again, I WILL BE THE HAPPIEST PERSON IN THE WORLD! Today I sweat so much that my eyes started to sting and I couldn’t move my legs are doing burpees, lunges, knee ups, skipping squats, sumo squats, jump squats etc etc 😭 Jess and I kept looking at each other during our workout like we were going to die.. but then she kept saying to me “we’re gonna feel so good after this!” and we kept going! I actually couldn’t do it without her today. So shout out to you girl! Hope you didn’t Skip your Monday workout today!  My swim on the way home was EARNED today! 3 more days of school and work for 2017.. I’m excited! Sez x •

So yesterday’s Santa dash brought about a fun end to the 2017 racing year for me, which was a racing years of highs and lows. 
There was a third place finish at the Stathearn Trail Series. And top ten finishes at both @tartan_warrior races and Energise OCR, which I am really pleased with although a race podium is still out my grasp.
Injury really hampered things for a few months resulting in some DNSs and several races really not going as well as they should have.
The low point was definitely at Europe’s Toughest Mudder, struggling with the cold and wet conditions and then retiring early due injury. But I will be back next year. 
Best race of the year for me was the Ultra Warrior @totalwarrioruk another lapped OCR against a 5 hour time limit. I loved this race, it might be because of the 6th place finish or it might be because I found it so rewarding, challenging and managed 37km. I am gutted there won’t be one in Scotland next year but am determined to go to the Lakes instead. 
Got my first taste of @spartanraceuk completing the Edinburgh Sprint in torrential rain with a bad hangover and then the Marston lodge Super in the baking hot sun (also with a hangover). Next year I will be going for the double trifecta, which includes the Scotland Trifecta Weekend. I will also be doing a Hurricane Heat because why not.
I have met some great people over the past year at races making new friends along the way and have started training with the brilliant guys at Warriorfit where we go and play in the Pentland Hills just for fun. Weekly trips to Edinburgh on a Wednesday morning before the sunrises for @projectawesomeedinburgh is also bringing the smiles. 
As for next year, the race I am looking forward to the most has to be the @ratracehq Dirty Weekend. I have heard so many good things about it, from the amazing obstacles to the after party. Sound like a lot of fun.
