That is exactly the case. To get more people into church buildings, we have dropped our standards and rationalized away almost everything in the Bible. This is because we were too afraid to live by faith; not really understanding what faith even is. Because we have done this, God is displeased and has distanced Himself from most of His Church. So, we don't get anywhere much because we don't have God fully working in our favor. Our efforts, for the most part, often come to nothing; our prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling. What usually becomes our solution? We get even further away from the teachings of the Bible. That just leads us further and further down this dead-end path. I believe this describes the dilemma the Church is facing today. Let's learn what faith really is, it's purpose, and how it works. Let's also love each other by showing GOD's love to each other so that we're all no longer afraid to operate in faith, trusting God each time we do.
1 John 4:18-21
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
