The @chicagomqg was invited to a preview reception of a new exhibit at the @artinstitutechi called "Making Memories: Quilts as Souvenirs." It was a blast! As a curator focusing on textiles for my day job, I love seeing exhibits like this! Scroll through to see some of my favorites from the exhibit, including one about a boxer, a diner quilt that made me think of the Double R Diner in my beloved Twin Peaks, and a quilt showing a series of sassy ladies doing a quilt show and tell. If you're in Chicago, make sure to see it!

Famous Artists from Chicago. 1965-1975” has been conceived as an in-depth analysis of the artists active throughout the 60’s and 70’s, who were featured in shows that questioned traditional exhibition set-up and presentation conventions, such as “Hairy Who” (1966-‘67), “False Image” (1968-‘69), “Nonplussed Some” (1968-’69), organized at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, and itinerant exhibition “Made in Chicago”, first presented at the São Paulo Biennial in 1973.
The show depicts the energy of the cultural environment of this American city as a center for figurative production, as well as the heterogeneity of the contributions of some artists known as Chicago Imagists (Roger Brown, Ed Flood, Art Green, Gladys Nilsson, Jim Nutt, Ed Paschke, Christina Ramberg, Suellen Rocca and Karl Wirsum), who had identified the roots of their personal research in Surrealism and Art Brut, in a way that anticipated the new tendencies of the 80’s and 90’s, from Graffiti to Street Art, from wild cartoons to urban murals.

Quietly, slowly, gently dipping all my senses into all the layers that exist in this sweet world. This new moon for me means healing and so many other things. This act of dipping is especially true for conversations and human connections. I don't want something shallow, penetrable. I want the impasto technique. Thick, layered, standing out from a surface. Texture. Depth. So enticing you want to study it further. Give me these conversations. That's all. I got the gift of a lot of Van Gogh this past weekend, with seeing the opening premiere of @lovingvincentmovie at @musicboxchicago, during which I cried, then seeing his piece "The Poet's Garden" at @artinstitutechi . And everything connected, and why Van Gogh has long been my favorite painter, for a moment looking at this piece with @rachelcarolineadams. Give me that depth. Give me that impasto technique in the senses of my life. And then take a deeper look. Again. 🎨❤️

The title of the show highlights the necessity, expressed by curator and teacher Don Baum, to launch Chicago artists into the national and international scene.

Fear of a Clear Day, preliminary sketch; this is a sketch is based upon a documentary regarding drone attacks in middle-eastern countries. Clear days were accompanied by drone attacks from the sky. The population preferred cloudy days as they deterred attacks. This was inspired by Saul Steinburg’s “Bombing China” 1945 #droneattack #militarydrone #chicagoart #abstractart #saulsteinberg #artinstituteofchicago @artinstitutechi

Chicago, I love any chance I get to visit you! Morgan + Michael's classic, elegant engagement session will be coming to my blog soon!
//
These two people made my job easy, we got to share laughs + talk about their chilly (Michael says warm) proposal in their new home city. Yes, I'm already wishing for next summer to be here, so that I get to spend more time with them!!
