OPENING NEXXT Jonny Niesche's 'Cracked actor', his first UK solo show, opens at Peter von Kant on Friday 29 September 2017, 6-9pm, the show running through 17 November - Seen here 'Idol #5 ' (2017), Brass, auto paint, 40x30cm - Post minimal and materially fetishistic, Niesche’s work uses complex welded steel armature, mirror, translucent custom-dyed fabrics, glitter in an expanded exploration of abstraction, a juncture between sculpture and painting. Sexual, architectural, metaphysical, superficial, psychological associations can be interpreted in his works, with colour as the principle elixir. Jonny Niesche completed his MFA (2013) at Sydney College of the Arts under Mikala Dwyer, and under Heimo Zobernig at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 2015 he was awarded the Fauvette Loureiro Travelling Scholarship. Niesche has exhibited internationally in group exhibitions with notable institutions including ‘Superposition of three types’ at Artspace, Sydney 2017; ‘Shut up and Paint ‘ at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Melbourne 2016; ‘Painting. More Painting’ at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA), Melbourne, 2016. An exhibition text by Domenico de Chirico will accompany the show. Calling all Artists: Let’s COLLABORATE!
Are you an artist looking to expand and diversify your scope of work? We’d love to be a part of that journey with you! That’s why we’re looking for an Australian based artist to create a unique piece of artwork to be developed into Limited Edition prints that’ll adorn jackets inside & out.
It’s an acquisitive opportunity, which means that we’ll be paying the selected artist for the commissioned work. You’ll then work with our Melbourne based design team where your artwork will be developed to form awesome prints ready for fabrication… and honestly, we’re a nice bunch to work with! Click the link in Bio to find out how!
