- thank you. thank you to the past that broke her, thank you to the past that pulled her, prodded her and proceeded to piss her off. thank you to the boys that fucked her wrong and thank you to the girls that fucked her over. thank you to the friends that made her trust no one and thank you to the strangers she instantly hated. thank you winter for the cold nights, where her duvet was her only salvation and thank you for the red eyes and sore throats each summer argument caused. thank you to the sun not making her smile at every sunrise and thank you to brightest star that failed to glisten over her. thank you to her past.
thank you for letting me put back together her broken heart. thank you for letting me be the one to soothe her aches and pains. thank you to the past for leading her to me, so I could be her eyes when she couldn't see through her tears. thank you to the past for letting me be the one who makes her tea on a winters morning, to warm her up. thank you to those who left her bedside, so I could have the space to wake up next to the most beautiful sight I've seen. thank you to those who show her i fuck her right and love her the hardest. thank you to those that pushed her into my arms when all that surrounded her was darkness. thank you for letting me be the one to give her peace and to give her hope. thank you for letting me be the one to help her trust again. thank you for allowing me to show her that promises aren't always broken. But most of all,
thank you to her past for showing me to never to make the mistake of becoming part of her history.
A high of 30 degrees means this Brooklyn baby isn’t leaving the apartment much. Thankfully toys are captivating her attention for a little longer the days. Currently into: beadmazes, stacking cups, her stuffed @blablakidsshop elephant and soft books by @jellycat_official
Brooklyn has been sitting on my shelf for over a year now and I finally got around to reading it, thanks to #theunreadshelfproject2018
Eilis, the main protagonist, emigrates from Ireland to Brooklyn, with a job in hand and living quarters arranged for. Soon upon arrival, she suffers from homesickness. As a way of dealing with it, she enrols herself in a bookkeeping course and eventually, falls in love as well. But an unexpected call of duty takes her back to Ireland.
This book is easy and simple to read. Set in the 1950s, it talks about emigration, alienation and life in simpler (NOT EASY) times. Tóibín’s description of homesickness was spot on. The storytelling was not masterful or anything but I was engaged all the way through. Eilis was passive and observant. She did what was expected of her and did not speak what was on her mind. And sometimes I didn’t know whether I could trust her narrative or not.
All in all, this was an okay read for me with some really good elements so, ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars to Brooklyn.
Have you read this book?
What did you think about the ending of this book?
Friendships! Did you make New Years resolutions that revolve around health, fitness, and wellbeing? Are you unsure of how to proceed? Be really honest, because it's okay to ask for help!
January can be a cringe-inducing month for trainers and fitness professionals because people are jumping straight in without proper training or education. We gloss over a lot when it comes to physical fitness because we think we innately know what to do (move around, sweat, eat vegetables). But exercise physiology, training practices, and nutrition findings are constantly evolving. Things have shifted since you played soccer in high school or ran back when it was called jogging. To assume one can make a monumental change without help confuses me. If someone is sitting on all of the knowledge and skill they need to be a top-functioning athlete, why is a New Years resolution necessary?
Let this be the year we are smart enough to know what we don't know and ask for help. Let this be the year our health and wellness takes off and never dips. Let this be the year we prevent injuries and setbacks and make friends and step outside of our bubbles and learn new things.
If you want that to be your year, holler at me! I will GLADLY train your badass self.
