Living up to its name this time! I attempted riding this route along the Continental Divide Trail earlier this spring, and got sent home by a gnarly blizzard. Pretty perfect weather this time! .
Gone are the days of being able to wrap my arms around my home. I take my Texas flag on all my hikes, but now it's in Francisco Jalopy (my '94 Ford Exploder) along with all my earthly belongings. Driving from Austin to Seattle for the umpteenth time with my papa for company. We're gonna try to tag-team an all-nighter to see how far we can get before delerium sets in.
It is one of my life’s great privileges to have gotten to study martial arts with @everest.pepper. So grateful to be your student. Thanks for sharing so much with us. It was great to train Krav Maga, hapkido, CDT, eskrima, and everything else with you this weekend. I appreciate your help dialing in the details on the techniques, I promise I’ll tighten everything up and be in shape for the test in December!
9/22 | Mile 1602 - Making it further into the heart of Colorado as the weather brings sunshine, rain, wind, and hail... sometimes all within 5 minutes of eachother! I think we’re setting records for how many times our rain shells come on and off within an hour... •

The Gila River alternate is what 99% of CDT hikers take instead of the "official" route. This route is notorious for having hikers ford the river anywhere from 50 to 85 times, in a single day
However, I only forded it probable 10 times or so. This route was pretty much all bushwacking combined with blow downs and of course the river crossings. I didn't mind the fords but the bushwacking was miserable. I wish I had pictures and videos of it but I was too annoyed to take out my phone. I was hardly going 2mph at times
Once I got to the Gila High Route junction it was a no brainer for me. A lot of NOBOs recommended this route and now I know why. I went from bushwacking to actually walking on a nice trail. This route was also about 10 miles shorter than the regular Gila alternate so I made it to my next resupply sooner than expected. They were closed when I got here but there's wifi
