After a full long week of tastings, seminars, friends, classes, and of course all the parties that only Tales of the Cocktails provides, I decided to go green. In cocktails that is!
I am calling this one The Green on Green, which apparently is also a term used in strip clubs but that's a whole other story.
What's in it? Funny you should ask;
1 1/2 oz @brooklyngin | 1/2 oz Green Chartreuse | 3/4 oz Cucumber simple syrup | 1/2 oz Pear juice | 1 oz Lemon juice | 3 dashes @hellacocktailco ginger bitters.

As beautifully as a cocktail in a barrel, CocktailDetour's feed is aging on Instagram we'd like to believe. Today, July 22nd, marks the one year anniversary of CocktailDetour's Instagram debut. Exactly one year ago we posted a Cynar & Soda drink, without knowing what an impact this action would have on our cocktail engagement. When likes started to come in we were thrilled. When followers joined we were ecstatic. And now, two thousand six hundred followers later we are quite overwhelmed and humble by the support and feedback we have gotten from the drinksta-community.⠀
Our recent travel to USA took as to exquisite barware boutique @barkeepersilverlake in Los Angeles where we bought a two liter barrel, with the intent of aging a selected cocktail at home. We decided to do a 1,5 liter batch of Vieux Carré and today we are getting a first taste, after a week in the barrel. Also thought this was a rather fitting post on our IG birthday, some things might take a while to mature, but that's ok and it might even result in a more refined outcome.⠀
So this recipe is obviously for a rather big batch. We won't go into details how to cure the barrel and how to take care of it, all of that you will get instructions for when you buy it. But, if you are intrigued by the idea of adding flavour, and smoothing out the edgy notes of a classic recipe, the below batch might be just for you!⠀
15 oz bourbon⠀
15 oz Cognac⠀
15 oz sweet vermouth⠀
2,5 oz Benedictine liqueur⠀
1 oz Angostura bitters⠀
1 oz Peychaud bitters⠀
Age in a barrel for about three weeks. But do taste frequently!⠀
After this one week tasting we decided to keep the batch in the barrel. At least one more week, or potentially two, is what we believe will perfect this Vieux Carré.⠀
If you haven't already met Tom, we suggest you do. Ask him to surprise you with a cocktail and he will never disappoint. "My favorite cocktail is the Bad Company. I love it because it is a smoky, citrus flavored Mezcal drink with the perfect touch of Maraschino Liqueur."

1 ounce Porch Light Sun Dried #Fig#Vodka
4 ounces #Vanilla#CreamSoda
1½ ounces @FourRosesBourbon
Pour the ingredients over #ice and then stir to combine.
Pour into a serving glass or #cocktail coupes.

Any day is a good day for a slushie, especially when it's made in your own ice-filled blender with 3 ounces of @makersmark bourbon, 10 or so pitted fresh cherries, the juice of half a lime, and a touch of strawberry simple syrup. The icy beverage headache you might get from slurping this down a bit too quickly won't last long and will be totally worth it.
