It's one of the great debates in the fitness/strength community. But really, there's no need for debate. They are both great exercises & both serve slightly different purposes.
The sumo relies on recruiting the hips, glutes & legs primarily to initiate the pull, while the conventional style will incorporate much more lower back and hamstrings.
So which one is better for you? Well it depends on the individual. For some a sumo deadlift will feel more comfortable (common for taller lifters) and for others the conventional will feel more natural and will allow them to pull more weight.
Stick to the one that feels best for you, and even incorporate both or alternate them in your programming if you have the room & mobility for it.
Christmas is on the horizon, y'all, and Dirty South Fit will be adopting families through Hope Hill Elementary. Last year, we were able to provide a happy holiday to 3 families including 9 kids under 16. We're hoping to do the same this year! If you'd like to contribute, you can bring gifts, wrapped or unwrapped, gift cards, or money to any of the workouts. You can also PayPal us and we’ll handle buying the gifts. We'll be dropping everything off at the school on Fri, Dec 22. (Also, if you'd like to visit the school when we drop everything off, let me know and we can coordinate that.) Thanks guys! #dirtysouthfit#dosomegood

“You are only confined by the walls you build yourself” ✨ When I made this page, I promised myself I would never throw anything cliché your way, so forgive me for this one. 🙃
I don’t believe in excuses and I don’t think you should either. We, as humans, build so many walls, whether it be with people (which I am the biggest culprit of), or with things, goals, etc. We convince ourselves that we “can’t” so we don’t. But I say, fuckkkkk that. Why would you give something up because you think you can’t?
We build up these walls that confine ourselves before we even try. But I say fuckkkkk that. Why let something as simple as a thought stand in your way.
What if, instead of unconsciously building these walls, we decided there were none, and we just moved forward everyday?
It’s. Mindset. That’s. It.
Stop making excuses and GO.
More importantly, stop looking to others to see how they did it. Look to yourself because babe, no one has the same life as you, you get to create yours however you want, why mimic someone else’s?

Happy belated Birthday to our friend @jamescjcarney - the King of Hand Slaps🖐🏼 We can always count on you to make us laugh, be up for a beer, go hard in a workout and be there for anyone who needs it. Don’t know how we got so lucky to have a guy like you in our community, but we sure are grateful #gicfbirthdays#besos#handslaps
