David Jones, I love how your recent campaign embraces cultural diversity but your marketing team desperately need some training in diversity and inclusion. Adut Akech (pictured) migrated to Australia from South Sudan, appears in David Jones' summer catalogue along with other models from various cultural backgrounds. A Facebook user voiced her concerns saying, "Although I think your use of the beautiful black model is very attractive, I don't feel it represents the general population of Australia". DJ's gave a generic response "We are so sorry you feel this way. We have passed your feedback on to our Marketing Department for their information and consideration". Why should you apologize to hateful comments like this?!
We are one, but we are many,
And from all the lands on earth we come.
We'll share a dream and sing with one voice,
"I am, you are, we are Australian."
Song: I Am Australian

These are words I grew up with, the lyrics to a song for a 1980's campaign I can't remember. I believe in these words and was taught to see the beauty in every person.
Every person has value, beauty and worth.
Let the light of your neighbour shine.
Until America figures this all out, I'm going to be holding doors for strangers, letting people cut in front of me in traffic, saying good morning, being patient with a waiter, and smiling at strangers, as often as I am provided the opportunity. A friend once told me, she could tell when she crossed the state line into Missouri as people waved at you...total strangers traveling the opposite direction waved at you...So you'll see me waving as well. I feel I can not stand idly by and let children live in a world where unconditional love is invisible. Join me... in showing love to someone who may not necessarily deserve it. Find your own way to swing the pendulum in the direction of love. Because today, sadly, hate is winning. God loves us unconditionally, why not be a living example too?
We pride ourselves on the fact that not only is #belfastmela the biggest celebration of cultural diversity on the island of Ireland, it's also family-friendly and suitable for all ages.
Today we're celebrating the young people of #mela - from babes in arms right up to teenagers, Belfast Mela is a safe and fun experience for young festival goers and participants alike.
I met my wife during my university days back in my hometown – Dallas, Texas. She wanted to live nearer to her family as she felt homesick, so we packed our bags and left for Singapore. Working in Singapore at LSBF as an English lecturer, I felt that everyone has a place they can call home in Singapore unlike back in The States. Cultural diversity plays a big part in Singapore and I’m a believer in that. In fact, my own family is a living example of the multi-cultural diversity in Singapore. – Samuel

I was up north this past long weekend with no cell coverage, no tv. I was shocked and beyond sick on Sunday evening when I heard what happened in Virginia. I have needed time to process. So many feelings.. sadness, anger, fear. A crushing weight upon me. I must speak out against this evil. And that's what this is. Pure evil. It's really not a race issue, it's an evil issue. And it cannot win. We must realize that we are all being played. As long as they continue to try to turn us against each other, sowing seeds of suspicion, fear and anger; they will continue to divide us. We can't play into their hands. There are so many more people who want peace, who want to chose love and embrace ALL of our brothers and sisters and celebrate our wonderful cultural diversity that makes us so interesting! Those characters who spew this evil, I will not use their names and give them any publicity, we all know who they are....they are the ones with those beliefs AND they DO NOT represent me AND they DO NOT represent the white race as a whole. I'm sick and tired and angry that they are allowed to spew this hate. They represent a small minority of the most despicable, small-minded, hateful, narcissistic, self-serving scum. WE must remember that there are more of us who DO NOT believe or subscribe to their evil. WE must come together. I choose love over hate. I choose faith over fear. I pray for us all and for the true leaders to come forward in our country and STOP this insanity in the White House, and to denounce all hate groups and to do what is needed to truly unite this country. We ARE such a beautiful tapestry, sewn together by the very hand of God. Yes, there are some rips, some thread barren areas, broken threads and even some missing pieces. But, WE need to come together and mend OUR tapestry. We have the power. DO NOT give it to "them". Much Love, peace and blessings❤️🙏🌹#equalityforall#culturaldiversity#loveoneanother#celebrateeachother#saynotoracism#chooselove#powerofprayer#embracehealing#nofear#faith#changetheworld
Found this little gem at the library today. The author introduces cultures from around the world, various religions, celebrations, which languages are spoken in which countries and how to say a few phrases in each. More importantly though, this book helps parents find ways to introduce topics of social activism, inequality and empowerment to kids. It gives ideas for ways to get children involved in supporting community projects near and far away. It also helps you look at the kind of diversity you expose your children to and if you come to the conclusion that your social circles are pretty homogenous - the author offers ideas of how you can expand your network to ensure your children grow up with friends from lots of different cultural, financial and religious backgrounds. I just opened it and the first page I saw listed "the top 20 languages by numbers of native speakers". Being the demographics nerd that I am, I pretty sure I will not be able to put this book down 😍😍😍
