Yasiin Bey Ft. Talib Kweli - Know That #late808
I'm gonna do a full review of the new IDK and King Krule albums but as for other albums I've listened to that came out last Friday, here are my short thoughts on them ------------------------------------------
WU TANG CLAN - THE SAGA CONTINUES
This new Wu Tang album is pretty much what you'd expect from a Wu Tang Clan album in 2017. The beats are all there. The old school boom bap instrumentation is here in full effect, and the skits of clips from old kung fu movies are here and are great. While I think some of these beats are kinda overproduced, like "Fast and Furious" or "Frozen". Not that these beats sound glitzy or poppy, they just kinda lack that boom bap feel because the 808 sounds a bit underutilized for me. Wu Tang isn't about the beats though, it's about the verses and the energy. Do the members come through on here? Ehhh kinda. They do their job on a majority of these songs but some of the members sound pretty washed up. Especially Inspectah Deck whenever he's on. His verses on "Lesson Learn'd" and even "People Say" which was the single released before the album just sound a bit off to me. There's also moments where a non Wu Tang member will have a by far better verse than anyone else on the track like Chris Rivers on "Frozen" for example. Now it makes sense that the members would sound washed up, I mean they're far passed their prime and everybody knows that. But A Tribe Called Quest released an album last year that's, in my opinion one of their best albums. Now I know it's different because Wu Tang has been consistently releasing albums every few years for decades now, but this thing is just overall okay for me. "People Say" is a sick track and so is "Pearl Harbor" but among these songs where the most interesting members get he most interesting verses there's just so much filler. It has nice beats and like I said before nice skits, but content wise it just boils down to an okay rap album for me #wutangclan#thesagacontinues#stvincent#masseduction#brentfaiyaz#sonderson#beck#colors#pop#music#popmusic#rnb#beyonce#bjork#hiphop#rap#oldschoolhiphop#album#albumreview#frankocean#popmusic#michaeljackson#tupac#biggie#eastcoasthiphop#hashtagsforlikes 👇👇
@ins_tagrams’ (Inspectah Deck) verse on ‘Triumph’ by The Wu-Tang Clan
This is one of the most acclaimed and famous hip hop verses of all time. Full stop.
And considering that his verse was one of NINE on the track, it’s even more surprising that he stood out that much.
JUST LOOK AT IT. NEARLY EVERY WORD RHYMES WITH SOMETHING. GO LISTEN TO THE NEW WU TANG ALBUM NOW.
