Homework on Saturday? I've got a #solution .
Irony moment- a rum and coffee is called #spanishcoffee . I'm drinking @captainmorganusa white #rum .
See, Capt. James Morgan was a privateer whose job was to cement the British sugarcane trade in the Caribbean #skullcracker
Being a privateer, he had royal decree to attack any Spanish ships he found- as #gb and #espana were competing to dominate the sugarcane trade- sugarcane being the primary ingredient in rum, rum being how sailors avoided scurvy (#putthelimeinthecoconutanddrinkitallup )
As payment, he was appointed Governor of Jamaica. But because Spain still controlled the majority of sugarcane plantations in the Caribbean, rum and coffee is called Spanish rum- regardless as to the origin of the cane. #rollinginthegrave
While we're arguing over statues as history, this is the type of history that actually matters. Just my #$0.02
Imagine yourself a millennium ago walking this Roman bridge at dawn to get to the center of town to work your artisanal trade...at that time, the bridge was already almost a millennium old, and Córdoba was the cultural center of the civilized world and the most populated city in Europe at the time. It was the capital of the Caliphate of Córdoba, ruled by the Moors but was an ethnically, culturally and religiously diverse society, blending Muslims, Jews and Christians together. Cordoba, #Spain is one of our stops on a few of our multi-city tours. Photo by @onamissionalex #WorldPhotoDay#nofilter#nofilterneeded

To think, we celebrated my sister's birthday this year in beautiful #Barcelona because it was among the safest cities to visit. My heart goes out to all the victims of the recent attacks in #Spain . I refuse to let this stop me from #traveling .
