It’s amazing when looking back through files from a session I can remember every wave and moment vividly , even though in a session you can shoot hundreds of different waves 🤔 and I still forget my PIN number for my credit card 😂

Her name was Lola, she was a psycho!
It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time to roll out our Stellar ‘orange carpet’ for another of our fave Aussie feature films. ‘The Loved Ones’ is from a genre that Australians seem to excel at: horror.
Released in 2010, it stars smouldering Xavier Samuel as Brent, a high schooler who is driving with his father as the passenger when a ghostly apparition causes him to swerve off the road, hitting a tree and killing his father.
From here it’s a quick and slippery slope into pain and guilt, fuelled by cannabis and self-mutilation. Thankfully his kind-hearted and caring girlfriend Holly (Victoria Thaine) offers a path to happiness and his plans to go to the prom with her seem a great distraction. Enter Lola Stone (played by Robin McLeavy), who doesn’t cope well with being rejected as Brent’s prom date when she asks him. Uh oh!
What follows is a horror movie with all the elements when Brent finds himself an unwilling participant in Lola’s very own ‘prom’. There are psychotic characters, lashings of blood and gore, heart-in-your-mouth panic and, weirdly, an overriding sense of fun as you cheer on Brent and Holly, and enjoy the plot twists thrown in for good measure. It’s all staged under a mirrored disco ball in Lola’s home, and is one of those films the audience really got into when it was shown at MIFF. Expect to gasp, clap, cheer and jeer for writer/director Sean Byrne’s deliciously dark little number.
As one of the film’s taglines goes, “You don’t have to die to go to hell!”
