The next part of the trip was a visit to a gorgeous Hindu temple in Tongaat. It's taken me a while to put these up, because I've been trying to find the correct names and stories behind each of the photos I took. This one is easy though, as my name is connected to her!
This is Devi Durga, seen here destroying the half-buffalo, half-human asura "Mahishasura" with her trident. #DeviDurga#GoddessDurga#ShreeVeerabogaEmperumalTemple#Tongaat#SouthAfrica
Aadi Velli Pooja at home today.. Just another reason to wear saree. I can say my love for saree is growing.
Coming to the Aadi Velli, it is mainly celebrated by tamilians. "Aadi Velli" is a special Pooja observed on Fridays in Aadi month of Tamil Calendar. It is a ritualistic worship of the Goddess Maa Shakthi, performed to keep us in good wealth and health, in all walks of our life.. Wishing everyone all the positivity, patience, perseverance in everything you do.

Chattushringi (Chattu means four) is a mountain with four peaks. The Chattushringi temple is 90 feet high and 125 feet wide and is a symbol of power and faith. One has to climb more than 100 steps to reach the shrine of #Goddess#Chattushringi . In the temple premises there are also temples of #GoddessDurga and Lord Ganesh. This includes eight miniature idols of Ashtavinayaka. These small temples are located on the four separate hillocks. Also includes the temple of vetal maharaj at the baner pashan end.
Nearly 4 weeks ago now, something AMAZING happened! During the Food Breath & Sound weekend I was given my ‘Spiritual Name’ by Mother Maya – the ceremony was so beautifully given by Linda Bretherton and it has taken until now for me to share this wonderful event because it was so meaningful, so humbling and full of LOVE.
I am truly honoured that Maya Tiwari has chosen my name for me, she is the founder of Wise Earth School of Ayurveda and through her teachings, taught to me by Linda, I have found a deeper understanding of this wonderful world we live in, my beautiful body and to be aware on a more spiritual and physical level.
My name is……… Kalyani कल्याणी
which means "welfare, beautiful, lovely, auspicious, good fortune, happiness" in Sanskrit. It is also another name of the Hindu goddesses Durga and Parvati. Kalyani is a melakarta raga in the Carnatic music of South India, and is also an important raga in Hindustani (North Indian) music.
Yesterday I had my name written on my arm in henna, I love looking at it and reminding myself of that sacred ceremony, shared with my lovely Ahimsa family. Also reminding me of the journey I have been on for the last 7 years, and continue to do so.
Much love to all 🙏 #ayurveda#wiseearthayurveda#lindabretherton#sacredceremony#goddessdurga
Goddess Durga symbolizes the divine forces (positive energy) known as divine shakti (feminine energy/ power) that is used against the negative forces of evil and wickedness. She protects her devotees from evil powers and safeguards them. #mural#murals#urbanart#durga#goddessdurga#losangeles
Boundaries are happening in such a strong way for a lot of us right now. .
This card from @the_moondeck came up today in @magicisreal_lizzie 's Daily Magic Card Reading. .
What boundaries do you clearly and lovingly hold in your life to keep you feeling safe and comfortable? Which boundaries need to be held more fiercely? Which ones need to loosen a bit?
Take a few minutes to check with yourself about the boundaries you are holding. Where might you be holding on too tight or not standing strongly enough?
I hold strong, loving boundaries.
Boundaries are coming up so strongly, we will feature #durga in our next workshop at @lifelabhb So we can all get a handle on holding our boundaries. 🔥🔥🔥
#MahaKali is said to be the fiercest form of Durga, but that does not mean She brings ill fate to people. She stands for ending evil in our lives, just like the demons that even #LordShiva or #Vishnu could not eliminate. #GoddessDurga was created with the intention of achieving the unachievable and therefore was able to eliminate them and protect the Hawans and Yajnas of the Rishi Munees.
This is why She is also known as #Shakti – the #DivineFeminine , because She has the power to protect and create a safeguard around you.
Mother Kali is known as Kali-Ma, the Black Goddess, Maha Kali, Nitya Kali, Smashana Kali, Raksha Kali, Shyama Kali, Kalikamata, and Kalaratri. Among the Tamils she is known as Kottavei. Maha Kali and Nitya Kali are mentioned in the Tantra philosophy. 'Kal' means Darkness; Kali takes away that Darkness. She takes away the darkness from every individual who strives in the path of perfection by performing the spiritual disciplines of purifying austerities. Just as all the colors of the visible spectrum mix into white, yet still the black void remains black, so too, Kali, who is completely Dark, Unknowable, takes away all the Darkness, yet She, Herself, remains unchanged. 'Kal' also translates as Time and 'i' means the Cause; Kali, the Cause of Time or She Who is Beyond Time, activates Consciousness to perception, allows Consciousness to perceive.
Kali's nudity implies a similar meaning. In many instances she is described as garbed in space or sky clad. In her absolute, primordial nakedness she is free from all covering of illusion. She is Nature stripped of 'clothes'. It symbolizes that she is completely beyond name and form, completely beyond the illusory effects of maya (false consciousness). Her nudity is said to represent totally illumined consciousness, unaffected by maya. Kali is the bright fire of truth, which cannot be hidden by the clothes of ignorance.

Goddess Durga- "Gratitude to the feminine energy which protects from all manner of negative influences. In Sanskrit Durga means 'as the one who is unbeatable and can not be defeated.' She is the warrior goddess, whose mythology centers around combating evils and demonic forces that threaten peace, prosperity and dharma of the good. She is the fierce form of the protective mother goddess, willing to unleash her anger against wrong, violence for liberation and destruction to empower creation. She also signifies Durgatinashini, which translates as the one who eliminates sufferings and illusion." I've fallen off a bit from my passion of the Goddess' but today I felt compelled to paint Durga.. may all obstacles be removed, and all illusions clear 🙏🏽 #shakti#gratitude#Durga#goddess#goddessdurga#strength#power#divine#divinefeminine#feminine#energy#toga#hindu#yogamind#energyhealing#paint#art#arttherapy#creative#create#creativity

Durga is Kali and Kali is Durga. Although worshipped in the two different forms , both Durga and Kali are representations of the same feminine ‘Shakti’. According to Hindu scriptures Goddess Shakti or the feminine power was created by the culmination of energies of all the Gods. The birth of Maa Durga was mainly to destroy the tyranny caused by King of the demons Mahisasura. The slaying of Mahisasura symbolizes the victory of good over evil. Goddess Kali originated from the forehead or brow of Maa Durga in order to kill the demons Shimbhu and Nishumbhu.
She is called Durga meaning one responsible to convert hardships (Durg) into joy. This Durga Energy is Shiva’s (one who wishes everyone’s well being) wife. In marriage males are given more importance than females. But here this is not true. In ShivaShakti, Shakti reigns. In the word Shiva, ‘I’ is none other than Shakti. If ‘I’ is removed the word becomes Shava or corpse.
In pictures of Mahakali, she is seen to dance on Shiva’s chest who is lying down on the ground. It means that from shiva’s bosom manifests zest, enthusiasm and energy. If Shiva were not to attain all this, he would remain a mere taintless witness-seer. Mahakali’s role is to pacify Mahakal’s ire, render his bosom zestful and disallow his potential to diminish. Their combined task fulfills their mission as Avatars. In an electrical flow one pole is positive and the other pole is negative. If this balance were not there the wire would burn and the aim of the powerhouse would fail to succeed. Mahakal has to execute very terrible and fiery Rudra like tasks. Mahakali renders these tasks well managed, balanced, peaceful, serene and mobile. If this were not the case this Avatar would be very fiery and an explosion could take place. When Shiva’s first wife Sati gave up her mortal coil there was a compulsive need to fulfill this void. As Uma she was reinstated! 💀👑👁👑💀 Art by @ramesstudios
Om Dum Durgayei Namaha
DURGA means invincible, somebody who is too powerful to be defeated or overcome.
DUM refers to initiation of that power. It's is like turning on a power switch. This mantra, is in essence, calling in on the divine force that cannot be defeated by anybody. A force that is so divine and strong, that evil of any sort fears to even come near it. Anyone who asks for the power, gets it from Mother Durga, who is the epitome of "Shaki". Durga ignites a fire which destroys all evil in our lives.
When chanted or listened to with full devotion, this mantra shows results instantly. A new energy force enters your body and you can feel it in just a few minutes. You can test your energy levels by easily fulfilling tasks that would drain you or make you feel tired otherwise. It's works like an "Energy Magic" whenever you need it. .
I recently received my Sanskrit/spiritual name based on my birthdate, place, and time. Yogeshwari ✨
Yogeshwari is Sanskrit for the goddess Durga or Shakti (the feminine energy of Shiva). She is the warrior goddess, whose mythology centers around combating evils and demonic forces that threaten peace, prosperity and dharma of the good. She is the fierce form of the protective mother goddess, willing to unleash her anger against wrong, violence for liberation and destruction to empower creation.
Basically, don't mess with her or she'll F you up
