Today was the best day. No, we didn't make the cutoff for the hunter classic, BUT... we won our first adult hunter class this morning (following up our 2nd & 4th from yesterday), had a refusal at the first fence during the second trip solely due to the fact that it was pouring rain, he slipped about four strides out which pulled the reins out of my hands because they were soaking wet and super slippery, and hey it happens! We didn't have enough time to recover from the slip, but we circled and finished the entire course like the first fence didn't happen. Then it started thundering and down pouring even more as we went down to the field for the classic. The girl before me jumped through the first fence and kept slipping/refusing, I felt so badly but was also nervous at how slick it was riding. He jumped everything phenomenally and I obviously had to go and mess up a bending line so we chipped out. He could have cared less. I couldn't be more proud of him. He was so brave and acted like an old pro jumping me around a strange course during a crazy thunderstorm. It's days like this that make everything worth it. I almost cried and couldn't stop smiling as I walked out of that ring, soaking wet, telling D what a good job he did. I'm sure a lot of people were like "um why is she so happy with that round?" but today wasn't about the big ribbons and victory gallop. Maybe next year, but today I was just honored to be able to jump around in great company with the best baby horse who is well on his way to becoming something great. ♥️
