While most sports fans worship athletes like Michael Jordan and his brand (Jordan who never gave a f*** about #socialissues#civilrights#racism ), others look up to groundbreaking athletes like Bill Russell, Kareem, Jim Brown and Muhammed Ali who consciously put their life in danger by using their athlete platform to make a difference.
We should put way more respect and pay way more tribute to all these brave athletes throughout history who have had the courage to use their voice to have a positive impact on society ✊🏾 In ancient greece and ancient rome, sports and drama were used to distract people from the social probelms of the time. Every time I hear someone saying athletes should shut the hell up and stick to their sports, it's the first thing I can think of...still 100% relevant today. The masses sleep and do not want to wake up because they are comfortable with living a lie.
@Regrann from @badassvegan - In 1967 this group of athletes gathered to hear Muhammad Ali (formerly Cassius Clay) give his reasons for rejecting the United States military draft. (it was for non violent reasons just like Kaepernick)
Muhammad Ali was among the first POC to refuse to fight in the Vietnam War. This incident took place at a meeting of the Negro Industrial and Economic Union to hear Ali's wisdom for rejecting the Vietnam War draft. These fellow men, and athletes, endorsed and supported Ali's decision and rallied to his defense. Where is that support today in the NFL?
