It's good to sit with you and talk about lovely things again...☘️
(Are those the words? No...but many if these and some curry chips later...those are the ones I'm using).
After a full long week of tastings, seminars, friends, classes, and of course all the parties that only Tales of the Cocktails provides, I decided to go green. In cocktails that is!
I am calling this one The Green on Green, which apparently is also a term used in strip clubs but that's a whole other story.
What's in it? Funny you should ask;
1 1/2 oz @brooklyngin | 1/2 oz Green Chartreuse | 3/4 oz Cucumber simple syrup | 1/2 oz Pear juice | 1 oz Lemon juice | 3 dashes @hellacocktailco ginger bitters.

Happy #nationalscotchday team! Kick your feet up and celebrate with a tasty little Scotch Sour. What's your favourite scotch brand out there?
▪2 oz @chivasregal scotch
▪1 oz fresh lemon juice 🍋
▪0.5 oz sugar syrup (2:1)
▪0.5 (roughly half) egg white 🍳
Shake all ingredients over ice. Strain back into your cocktail and discard ice and shake again (reverse dry shake). Strain into a ice filled short glass and dot some bitters on the surface if you're feeling fancy.

We enjoy the challenge of combing elements like fire & ice, sweet & savory, lime & coconut. It's a delicate balance between opposites that require just enough restraint to keep one from over powering the other. It's an elegant dance.

REAL COSMOPOLITAN 🍸🍋

Brian shows us how to make a Cosmopolitan. This ones a classic! 👌🏼
1 ½ oz. (45ml) Citrus Vodka
¾ oz. (22ml) Orange Liqueur
1 oz. (30ml) Cranberry Juice
½ oz (15ml) Lime Juice
Garnish: Lime Wheel
1. In a shaking glass, combine lime juice, cranberry juice, orange liqueur, and citrus vodka. Add ice and shake well.
2. Strain mix and rub orange peel around the edge of the glass.
3. Garnish with a lime wheel. Enjoy responsibly! 🍻post via @tipsybartender #newagegents

#BarFaithBottleTalk : Tinctures. Tinctures are basically very concentrated flavors created by soaking some herb/spice/etc in a high proof alcohol. They are similar to bitters in that they are the 'spices' of the cocktail world (quite literally), but are not necessarily bitter in flavor like cocktail bitters will be. A drop or two of these will add the essence of the spice or botanical to your cocktail without adding any additional sweetness (like syrups do) or volume (like juice). It's also perfect to use when the fresh flavor itself may not provide enough intensity
To make your own #tinctures , you can follow this basic template:
1 part spice/herb of choice
4 parts high proof neutral alcohol (minimum 40% and the higher the easier the flavor will transfer)
Let it sit for a few days up to a week, and then strain and keep in a dropper bottle. It'll keep indefinitely
Recently, I decided to make a few new batches with some interesting ingredients. Can you guess what these are? 😉 Let me know what your favorite flavors are and if you have any tips for making them! .
When I decide to make a cocktail from one of my recipe books, I look for drinks that are ultra-classics or drinks that I rarely see anywhere. Here's one that I rarely see: The Chapala, named for Lago de Chapala, Mexico's largest freshwater lake. Fun fact: One of the municipalities the lake lies in is Jamay in ... you guessed it, Jalisco; ground zero for tequila.
1.5 oz blanco tequila (I used Cazadores)
.5 tsp Cointreau
1 oz orange
.5 oz lemon
.25 oz grenadine (homemade please!)
Add all the ingredients to an ice-filled tin and shake until it can beat the summertime Mexico heat. Strain into an ice-filled Old Fashioned glass. Garnish with an orange slice. A big orange slice.
Mexico, for me, is a wonderful place. I'm lucky to travel there every year and mercifully escape the grey oppression of southwestern Ohio. When I'm enjoying a few Sols on a Mexican beach, life is good.
