Back to the oil paintings. Next portrait is the "Activist," modeled off Delacroix's "La Liberte guidant le peuple." Charcoal underdrawing completed - waiting for fixative to dry before adding color. #inthestudio#libertyleadingthepeople#portrait

'Riding out the Storm' maquette sculpture, just completed in the studio.
For me she is a freeze-frame of the moment when the fierceness of the storm changes garments that are worn from clothing to wings. She stands between our contemporary everyday tumults and the powerful reminders of greatness held in legend and folklore. And then she asks: "Are those capable of flying born like that?" Perhaps. But, much more compellingly, it might be the terrifying nearness of the storm which calls forth wings from those who had never imagined themselves able to fly.

Abstract painting is often like working a jigsaw puzzle with 5000 pieces. You come to the table with your tools and put the pieces next to each other, spin them around, waiting for the parts to fit together just magically so. And there are answers to the questions, and ways to the means, and means to the ends. And when it all works out to your own personal perfection, you can stand up and give a cheer. But until you arrive at the final image, it often just looks like someone left a mess at the table. But that's painting for you. So often mirroring our lives. How about that?
@karenchandlerart love you lots lady! Thanks for working the paintings with me over at @cafe_barbosso while we talk about life's puzzles.
We ventured out into this blustery chilli weather 🌧 to see some stunning artwork and explore the Walpole and Denmark Art Trail venues. DO NOT MISS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THIS WORK!
We adored @elizabeth.j.edmonds watercolours & Justine Gamblin's beautiful prints and sketches @littleshedstudio @petrichorgallery and of course @leannefryartist encaustic works at the Butter Factory Gallery in Denmark & Marilyn Barringtons magnificent display in her home studio. Way more to see but the rain just didn't let up. So much talent in that little pocket of the South West. 😍👌👍🏼✔
Finally feel like I have a little brain space to be able think about the business again & start planning to re-open the shop sometime soon... altho I'm not sacrificing any cuddle time just yet! Here's a throwback to a customer order from the summer... if only it had been for Brad & Angelina!
"I've learnt that you can make things happen. Your life isn't predestined." I keep this cutout on my desk, a daily reminder. Moving into a new season in a lot of ways right now, and I find myself remembering many of the words of this project. The time is now, even if I feel like I'm throwing myself into the deep end; then again, I've done that many times throughout my 20s...and it's been fine. Let's find our own form of courage this week, Happy Monday. 💕
