Coming in at #17 on our #powerrankings list are the Charlotte Hornets
Reason: The Hornets went a mediocre 36-46 last season, which was only good enough for the 11th best team In the east. They are clearly building around Kemba Walker, who appeared in his first all star game last season. Kemba is a solid second tier point guard, but he is not on the same level of other superstar guards, like Westbrook, Curry, Wall, and Kyrie. He was able to put up 24 ppg last season, and with the offseason additions the Hornets made, he's looking to lead Charlotte on a playoff run. This offseason the Hornets added Dwight Howard, who is still an effective rim protector, but lacks the offensive skills to be a productive scorer in today's NBA. They drafted Malik Monk out of Kentucky, with the hopes that he can become a reliable scoring option, and form a dynamic 1,2 punch with Kemba. The team holds some nice depth with role players like Frank Kaminsky, who is coming along nicely so far, and MKG who is a versatile player that can defend multiple positions. Nicolas Batum is also a very important factor for this team, but his injury on his non shooting elbow will likely keep him out for 2 months. In the sub par east with a core of Kemba Walker, surrounded by solid starters and role players, this Hornets team should be a playoff contender, likely finishing around the 7 or 8 seed. But If they do end up making the playoffs, we don't except them to make any noise in the postseason. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
