growing up I never took language classes seriously, I regret that now. I’ve met many people who can speak more than one language fluently. I had too much of a heeltyd speeltyd mentality.
my Afrikaans sucks but I fully understand it. my parents speak to me in Afrikaans and I reply in English.
anyone else? #askingforafriend
My notes may look like #studygoals , but my actual study style is a little different. I’ve been going back and forth between trying to get ahead on nursing school with this break and focusing on teaching myself Spanish. I just started working on @khanacademy with those NCLEX training program. They let you take a pretest so you know where you need to focus. I’m going to try to devote 30 minutes each day specifically to this training. What are you working on tonight?
I have to apologize for the delay in this #babbel21 Challenge Day 16 update being a day late. My schedule has been crazy.

We’re getting exciting for our first free parent education workshop for 2018, coming up next holidays. These were so popular last year!

This is a very, very basic conversation in Spanish. Did you understand all of it? If not, comment if you’d like for me to make a video breaking down the words and phrases. Want more conversations like this to practice? Let me know!
This is my personal view, but I believe that grades do not help anyone to learn a language. Learners should be tested, yes, but without getting a grade at the end. Regarding myself, I studied hard for the exams to get good grades, but I would forget everything afterwards since my studies had become more of a duty and less of a passion. Telling someone whether they succeeded or failed should be enough. It doesn't matter how "perfect" they were, but rather whether they understood what they learned or not, and if they can apply it in real life situations.

Languages related post: as we finish up our time in Colombia (just a few more days before heading back to Melbourne), I’ve been reflecting on how inspired I feel to continue improving my Spanish wherever I can. Learning languages opens you up to a new culture and a new way of thinking. Learning languages brings empathy and understanding between cultures, it bridges gaps and allows us to understand differences and celebrate our similarities. I know my Spanish isn’t great, my Japanese is not fluent and my Hungarian speaking is basic, but knowing even a little of other languages has helped me so much in getting by in other countries. I know now that I can read a bit of Portuguese, Italian, French and Chinese thanks to the other languages I know. I can understand my relatives in Hungary when they send me messages or when we are visiting and they’re telling me stories. I can order food and ask for things and directions comfortably in Spanish, Japanese and Hungarian. Importantly, I’ve been able to successfully cross translate between Hungarian-Japanese-Spanish-English (with the assistance of hand gestures 😂😂). I’ll keep posting inspirational language learning quotes over the next few days and weeks 😉.

Dear English Learner! Study, pay attention, be consistent, and your senses won't let you down. What you hear, what you see; what you read, what you learn...☆ Persist, and your senses will help you make progress!
