Every great adventure begins at your doorstep. During winter I used to run for hours through muddy fields and along winding forest trails. Every time I would explore a new area, run up a new hill, and get lost in a new direction. And I loved it. I was beginning to realize that there is a primal joy in discovery. I was beginning to realize that there is a world of excitement lying just outside of my comfort zone.
BYO 🍍 (true life: @ashkatch and I bought pineapple floaties our first day in Ios. As we went to go shoot for @partypantsusa we left the pineapples at our spot on the beach. Days went by, we're sitting at dinner and go "omg the pineapples." We go back to the beach and a crew of legends had saved them and held them in their beach office. Luckily we were able to convince them that they were ours 😂🍍. #radlivin
Córdoba, a small city in Andalucia, where evidence of the three monotheistic religions remains.
Visiting this small synagogue was a very special and rare moment: observing the Hebrew wording carved around Islamic arches and crucifixes painted beneath, whilst listening to Arabic, Spanish, Hebrew and English (Latin would have sealed the deal, but I'm just being greedy) from the multicultural fellow visitors. Listening to the priest's homily about tolerance and togetherness at today's Mass, I was reminded of this beautiful moment last Christmas.
This is Bellagio, a popular town in Lake Como. Pretty touristy but cute enough. There's the actual town of Como I wanted to set foot in too. And I did... sort of. If setting "tyre" counts. In another 'this could only happen to Aleks' moment, I accidentally took a wrong turn whilst looking for parking and got stuck driving at 1kph amidst crowds through the entire old town. Yep. Cars seemed to be allowed (saw a parked delivery van in the town square) so I wasn't breaking any rules, but endless dead ends meant finding an escape took nearly half an hour. Didn't bother parking in the end, hence no pictures. I mean, I saw it ALL. And I could've bought a magnet from a souvenir "make shift drive thru" if I'd wanted to, so marking it on Tripadvisor's 'Cities I've Visited' is absolutely fine. Right!? 🙄
End of weekend escape: to the beach! We enjoyed another balmy 30deg+ day overlooking the ocean. The cafe at Avalon Beach is such a gem; who wouldn't want to eat with this view?! Of course we had a quick paddle afterwards. You can't not, when the water looks this good.
To be fully here, in this moment, is to be enlightened. It can be a choice. One we sometimes choose not to make. But to not make this choice is to live in endless variations of the same experiences we’ve already had. To make this choice - to live in the infinite now - is to choose the new, the exciting, the unknown, and the possibility, in each moment, of the miraculous 💫
Cheers to being back in this great land of endless coasts, mountains, lakes, rivers, waterfalls and glaciers. Time to call this place home for a while and start this next chapter of my life. I am excited to pick up my new van today and spend the next week turning her into my little home on wheels. Ready to get busy living!
