Memento mori. "You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do, say and think." #marcusaurelius#theobstacleistheway
Remember you'll die. With that in mind, decide how you'll live, how you'll treat others and let yourself be treated.
Enjoy the journey.
Happy #halloween .. The shot is from the #sedlec#ossuary in Kutna Hora, Czech Republic. An otherwise average looking small chapel was founded by the cistercian order. The abbot once was sent to jerusalem by the bohemian king in the 13th century, and he came back with a jar of soil from the Golgotha, which he scattered over the area of the cemetery. Soon more and more people desired to burried in this 'holy soil'. After the plague and the hussite war the places quickly filled up, thus came the idea of creating an ossuary. After 300 years later, the #bones of more than 40.000 people were arranged artistically as they are today.
The site at first glance is mere grotesque (not to mention the fat baroque puttos), but the decoration makes deep sense within the context of equality, resurrection, redemption and the vanity of earthly life. #mementomori#churchofbones#kutnahora#metal#czechrepublic#unesco
There are few things I love more than roaming around cemeteries with my cameras, particularly in the autumn. I recently picked up a couple rolls of film that I shot at @historicgreenwood while exploring its vast splendor with @munichartstudio and @brandtbl nearly a year ago. I look forward to returning some day to continue my wanderings.
