A terrifying story of now a regular infantry battalion, the 2nd Devons became caught up in the German spring offensive and did much to prevent its success. As the website of the Devons recalls; 'The German offensive on 21st March 1918 found the 2nd Devons in reserve. Rushed to Peronne, on the 24th and 25th they held off several German attacks, suffering 322 casualties before conducting a fighting withdrawal covered by their field gunners. On 27th May at Bois de Buttes their Brigade was overwhelmed by a huge German attack and, to buy time for the rest of the Corps, the 2nd Devons stood and fought. This action cost the 551 killed and missing. Among those killed was their Colonel. To recognise their courage the French awarded the Regiment the Croix de Guerre, whose ribbon all Devons wore on their sleeve.' #uk#military#museum#war#ww1#ww2#book#bookworm#travel#explore#landscape#outdoors#airforce#british#library#reading#navy#tank#guns#plane#photo#art#memorial#sky#warmemorial#army#history#soldier#greatwar
I have met so many beautiful people in my life, I can write hundreds of stories about them. But only a few are still stuck in the front of my tired brain. In times of need I tune in on that memories and use them to overcome the pains I have to deal with right now.
Like back in the ‘90 I was on a mission with the navy and I gave a woman in the desert my bottle of Coca Cola, she drank it away as if there were no bubbles in it, she had a baby in her arms, I think the sick looking baby was 4 months old. After she drunk almost the whole bottle of coke, she gave it to here baby, I was like, no don’t! but she pushed me away and just gave it, the liquid was dripping on the little ones belly and down on the sandy floor. She was coughing, but the mother keep giving it to her. After taking the last drop herself, she threw the empty bottle in the sand and looked at me, while the child was gasping for air. She took my hand and kissed it, she asked for more, so I gave her my survival bars and energy drinks. She was still waving to me miles later. These moments are now so heavy, I have plenty of stories like this, and all with the same outcome, I always gave to much of myself, because the woman ate my bars while I knew I needed it myself later, and that’s the story of my life. I always give more than I can handle. Maybe I will change one day, who knows.. #memories#memory#past#lettinggo#heavy#lessons#life#overcome#futuregoals#feelings#emotions#time#changing#instagramhub#instalife#writersofinstagram#writersnetwork#desert#navy#years . @selfmotivated_life @self2freedom @llove__yyourself__ffirst 🌹

"exhorting them that with all their heart" they would "cleave to our Lord."
"encouraged all the people to "remain solidly committed to the Lord."
" exhorted them all that with "purpose of heart" they would "cling unto the Lord."
" exhorted them all, that with "purpose of heart" they would "hold to the Lord."
" exhorted them all with "purpose of heart" to "continue in the Lord."
" encouraged them all to "remain, with fixed resolve," "faithful to the Lord."
" exhorted them all, that was purpose of heart they should "remain near to the Lord."
Well. One verse, several versions. They all in one accord state a most holy conclusion-"Keep on keeping on" in your relationship to the LORD and stand firm in your love for HIM-
THIS is NOT a passive conclusion, it is powerful HOLY SPIRIT resolve to remain in CHRIST!!!
ON CHRIST the Solid Rock I stand-
all other ground is sinking sand-
HALLELUJAH! WHAT A SAVIOR!!!!
Today let us each go to our perspective churches and worship HIM, WHO sits on HIS Throne with all our hearts, with one purpose-
To give honor to Whom honor is due.....
My great grandparents met and fell in love in one of the worst periods of American History. They fought together in World War II, through Pearl Harbor, until being honorably discharged in 1946. They started an amazing life together and passed on their teachings to all of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Not having them around is one of the hardest things to accept, but they are together again like they were meant to be. Thankful for these two brave hearts tonight, and to have memories of both of them. #veterans#pearlharbor#worldwar2#usnavy#shouldveseenitincolor#allbecauseoflove#memories#va#navy#reggear#rip
