Save our beautiful home by minimizing your use of single use plastics.. 😘
You can even start small like me! I bring my kleankanteen and metal straws to #tamper cafe for my coffee and iced tea. And whenever I buy food at #soccorro , I bring my glass containers and ecobag! (I look like a total weirdo, but that's okay!😜)
#Repost from @thecleanattempt with @regram.app ... Plastic takes up to 1000 YEARS to decompose, which means they stay on earth long, long after we're gone.
What's worse is that many plastic items are one-time use. Think straws, takeaway coffee cups, cutleries, plastic bottles. We use them for less than an hour but they last a lifetime.
Be a conscious consumer. Rethink and refuse plastic.
Live green by boycotting plastic! Plastic it's very sneaky and can be found even on the products that you may think it's not possible! Here is some examples:
•Erasers-not rubber but you can find plastic and PVC!
•Chewing gum-think twice before start chewing that plastic for hours.
•Teabags ( packaging aside) -yep is there too, the bag itself contains plastic! 😱
•Tin cans of food-most of them are nearly all plastic lined.
•Plastic coated paper and foil -quite trick this one, being hard to spot.
• And this one it's quite grrrr, you can find plastic even in exfoliating cream and washes! 🙈😱
It seems we live surrounded by plastic and we must understand how harmful can be for our planet and ourselves!Get informed and get conscious! #notoplastic#boycottplastic#protectourplanet#getconscious#awarness
First day of @ClimateWeekNYC, a time for lots of dialogue and a fitting time to post something I've been thinking about. I post a lot about what we can do as individuals, but the real influencers of waste in our society are those of a larger scale like businesses or event organizers. They have much bigger roles in moving us from a linear economy to a circular one.
Here's a note I have written to some companies/brands of my favorite products. Not uber eloquent but short and to the point, sharing in case helpful:
I love your product, but are you doing anything around the plastic packaging? The packaging impacts my buying decision, and I prefer to have biodegradable packaging and/or refillable options. I would appreciate it
if you could let me know. Thanks! ♻️♻️♻️📝 ♻️♻️♻️📄♻️♻️♻️ P.S. What's in the pic are things I got before my focus on zero-waste, underlining the idiosyncrasy of green products in plastic containers. Also, I posted household goods but have done this with beauty/personal care ones too.
This is just a small section of the huge pile of yellow bags that were filled with plastic and other garbage picked up on Milnerton beach this morning. 12 hours later and I am still depressed.😞 The amount of total single use rubbish that humans generate and discard is horrifying and so unneccessary. We are literally slowly choking the planet with plastic.
Please STOP using plastic bags, straws, disposable water and cooldrink bottles as they all seem to finally end up in the ocean or a landfill where they last forever.
We created this mess. We need to fix this mess.
HOW WE KILL
Tomorrow in Panorama, my essay "Worse than Fiction," about art imitating life but never quite measuring up.
Here's an excerpt.
The true horror, though, is already happening and it’s happening so innocuously that there is no way it can elicit the same emotions—alarm, shock, fear, distress—that our films and literature do. It might have started when we learned to build a fire, when we learned to domesticate animals, when we turned a huge part of the Amazon into rubber plantations, when we transformed the very best of our hunting instincts into animal farms and slaughterhouses.
And it happens every time we use a plastic straw, with every sachet of shampoo we take with us on short trips, every time we start the gasoline-fed engine of our cars, every time we discard an old phone for a new one. We are not murderers, but this is how we kill.

"One reason people resist change is because they focus on what they have to give up instead of what they have to gain."
Every bit of plastic ever made still exists...somewhere.
I'm not one for using my page to promote products or people, I have to really believe in the product or person. With that info in mind I just want to thank @pelacase for the awesome job they're doing.
Pela make phone cases that are BPA-free, eco-friendly and child-safe. They're 100% compostable, shipped in plastic free packaging AND they ship for FREE Worldwide!
Pela donate a percentage of each sale to clean water & clean ocean initiatives around the globe, which makes them even more badass. 🙌🏼
If every one of us just made one small change, collectively we can make an enormous difference in reducing waste, in turn helping to protect our climate and move toward to more sustainable future and the worlds resources.
This post is in no way endorsed by Pela and I haven't been paid for it. We have a duty to #protectourplanet and pass it on to our children in a state in which they are able to enjoy it too; if this post reaches out to just one person, I've at least helped spread the word a little :)
Wow! What does that tell you, NCR? Be conscious of your actions, stop using plastic bags, its 2017 for fuck's sake! No excuses anymore, you are well informed, you have the means and the alternatives, you just lazy, bitch! #savemotherearth#notoplastic#recycle#maninthemirror
Laying out some #zerowastetravel essentials to keep in my purse on our trip from Marin to Toronto: #kleankanteen , stainless steel straw, bamboo utensils, loose leaf tea and spoon and a cloth napkin. We'll also be packing lunch and snacks to help stay #plasticfree at the airport 💙
