"Guests of Yasawa Island Resort partaking in the cultural experience of a traditional Kava ceremony, which in Fiji has a symbolic function of bringing two groups of people together." "Here's a snippet taken from ancient-origins.net..
"When one visits a new village, it is obligatory to bring the kava root as a gift. The community then gathers to prepare the drink, and the communal drinking then begins. After the village chief has his cup of kava, the drink is offered to the rest of the community in a communal bowl. Before receiving the drink, tradition dictates to clap the hands once, then after finishing the drink, one has to clap three more times. Once the ceremonial drinking is complete, everyone gathered would be friends, and the rest of the celebrations can begin."

We had the chance to visit Fiji for a day on our route back to Hawaii from New Zealand. Felt like what we imagined Hawaii to feel like 20 years ago. Beautiful culture, warm water, and empty beaches. We look forward to the day we get to go back and explore!
What lies beneath 🕵️ our last workshops of 2018 focussed on building community skills in soil science & environmental monitoring to strengthen their understanding of the ecological principles behind organic farming 💚 At this site in Northern Fiji we discovered a huge underground water table within 1.5 meters of the surface! Imagine what that means for what is grown above ground! 😯 Have you checked what lies beneath your farm? 🌱🌾💦
I’ve been collecting vintage clothing and furniture for more than 30 years and sometimes something extra special makes its way to me. Today I received in the mail a WWII Navy Seabees Uniform totally complete with even the swim trunks, belt and tie. I looked up the sailor’s name written on the inside of the hat (on the navy registry) and was able to dig a little further to find his obituary. He lived to be 100 years old and someone had shared a photo of him in uniform from WWII on his obituary page online which is the first photo (what are the chances). Second photo is his uniform that I received today. I like to believe items like this find their way to me because it’s obvious this meant a lot to him because it’s complete and in pristine condition. I will ensure it’s cared for until I die or donate it to a museum. In the meantime, I’ll be doing a photo shoot with E in this uniform and then it will be heading to Tiki Oasis for E to wear because the theme this year is South Pacific. I’m sure this Navy veteran never would have imagined his uniform had a few more adventures left to live. I’d say Tiki Oasis is the perfect place to show it off. #wwII#seabees#navyseabee#tikioasis#pacificislands#vintage#vintageclothing#vintageuniform#vintagecollection
“If you really want people to grow and really want them to know [God] and feel intimately connected to him, they need to do that in their own heart language.” Read this article from @theseedcompany about Andrew’s encounters with the Yef community.
