I’ve been using the goblet squat more and more as a main strength builder for my athletes in the beginning stages of general preparation.  This sets athletes up for some serious transfer to the safety bar and back squat. -
A common flaw I see in a squat when an athlete is loaded posteriorly is that they don’t engaged their abs enough.  Engaging the anterior portion of your core will set your hips and spine in a more neutral position and open up a lot of movement in the hips.  Performing 6 second eccentric goblet squats for 6-8 reps for a month to 2 months before squatting with a bar on your back will give your athlete a smooth transition to the next progression because of how much it forces you to engage your core. -
Here’s @zack_wilhoit30 performing a 90lbs 6 second eccentric goblet squat for 8 reps! While it’s less weight than what he would be doing on a safety bar, physically is a lot more challenging than having a bar on your back!

Justin has had issues with compound movements since he had surgery to repair a torn meniscus 2 years ago. 
I posted the first video a few weeks ago. You can see how hesitant he is during a squat. Instead of loading him up and "getting those gains", we dialed things wayyyy back. I had him perform some body weight squats assisted. This helps re-groove those lost motor patterns he's been struggling with since his injury/surgery. We've been hammering these every week. We started with 4X5-6 reps. Then, progressed to 4X10-12 reps a little deeper.

The second video was from today. His 4th week performing these. You can see how much better he's moving and how much more confident he is during the movememt. 
The third video was a loaded test to see where we were at after 4 weeks. A solid set of goblet squats. I'd say it was a big BIG WIN! 
It's important when dealing with disrupted motor patterns, whether it be from an injury or muscle stiffness, to take a step back and put the ego on the shelf for a bit. Go back to the basics and reestablish those good motor patterns. It works wonders!

Last body building post for a little while. I have started noticing a few health problems... I imagine backlash from the issues at the start of the year. I have decided to concentrate on boxing and general fitness for the time being and just get healthy. 
Update: this picture is a few weeks ago when I had finally passed 80kg again after dropping to a very low 72kg during hospital. More updates to follow!
