Justin has had issues with compound movements since he had surgery to repair a torn meniscus 2 years ago.
I posted the first video a few weeks ago. You can see how hesitant he is during a squat. Instead of loading him up and "getting those gains", we dialed things wayyyy back. I had him perform some body weight squats assisted. This helps re-groove those lost motor patterns he's been struggling with since his injury/surgery. We've been hammering these every week. We started with 4X5-6 reps. Then, progressed to 4X10-12 reps a little deeper.
The second video was from today. His 4th week performing these. You can see how much better he's moving and how much more confident he is during the movememt.
The third video was a loaded test to see where we were at after 4 weeks. A solid set of goblet squats. I'd say it was a big BIG WIN!
It's important when dealing with disrupted motor patterns, whether it be from an injury or muscle stiffness, to take a step back and put the ego on the shelf for a bit. Go back to the basics and reestablish those good motor patterns. It works wonders!
