"Yoga became my medicine, my exercise, my spiritual hideaway fighting autoimmune disease, Lupus"
These are the inspirational words of @healinghippsy, sharing her #yogasavedmylife story with us (her amazing husband deserves credit too!)
My journey with Lupus, continues has its ups and downs but, my path towards healing is what l am sharing as I feel by talking about my journey, I motivate myself to keep moving forward, to keep healing and to keep improving and hopefully, to inspire others in similar situations to persevere, to overcome and know that we have the power to be in control and the ability to transform our lives.
. “Don’t be a statistic, be a story of inspiration” whispered my husband in my ear from day one of my diagnosis
. "My husband was always telling me to take up yoga. Eventually I agreed. My first session was with my husband’s friend (now my best friend ) teacher @basma_saimua . She was the catalyst behind this change in my life and, despite the fact that I only had one session with her and that she’s now halfway across the world, she still remains a major inspiration and positive influence behind me getting better
Since then, Yoga has been a life changing experience for me! I made sure to practice at least three times a week, no matter my physical condition or how I feel at that moment
My breathing is improving due to the various #Pranayama techniques I learned; my mind is becoming calmer and less turbulent due to my daily meditation; my joint pains are easing by the day and my energy levels are increasing with every session
Stop and smell the roses! 💐My husband reminded me last night and it stuck
I’ve spent my life focused on my career since the age of 15. It eventually reflected on my mental and physical health. I put my career ahead of everything and everyone before. I only realized the importance of living when it was too late. Well it’s never too late! I am a lupus warrior and I will live my life to the full from now on regardless of my condition. Life has a lot to offer: family, friendships, pets, nature, love, happiness! This is life and this is the life I intend to live! 🤸♀️
The purpose of this glorious life is not simply to endure it, but to soar, stumble and flourish as you learn to fall in love with existence. We were born to live my dear not to merely exist ↠ Becca Lee
Waiting for warm summer nights, to feel the ocean and gaze beneath the stars at night🌌 My gratitude is for this beautiful life I have and for living in such a beautiful place. It’s hard to believe I used to take this place for granted, I wanted to leave and so I did I moved to the city where I thought I was happy. This was before yoga found me and when I fell into this practice I realized how the constant hum and business never allowed me to really be in touch with my being and nature it self. I then spent some time traveling Thailand and Vietnam and that experience really changed my perspective on the life I get to live. I never wanted to be home so badly and now I never wanna leave. Take a moment and take a deep breathe and tell yourself 3 things you are grateful for. Have a lovely day my loves💜🧘♀️
Expectation: There was supposed to be a lovely backbend included in this photo.
Reality: The waves were high AF that morning and these rocks were so slippery that it took way more strength than I care to admit to not slip and fall. Expectation vs Reality: shit doesn't usually work out how we plan; but that's ok. Learn to roll with it 🖤
Sometimes happiness is a feeling. Sometimes it’s a decision. .
It may sound weird but I had to learn how to let happiness in. Apathy and sadness became more comfortable than tasting happiness only to be left hollow when it went away. What I didn’t know was that I could decided to be happy on my own. Negativity only ruled as long as I let it, and boy, was I letting it. For the first time the other day, even though I had a tough morning with tough conversation and a little fender bender, I decided to be happy. And the second half of my day was beautiful and because of that, the first half became beautiful too. It was the first real time I actively decided on happiness, for myself. For no other reason than to not wallow in a bad day. For no other reason except I deserved it. And I have to say, I’m still giddy about it. What are you choosing today? 🙃✨❤️
Second last pose of #TrustYourJourney 🌞 Camel Pose or Ustrasana 🐪 This challenge has flown by! Always so amazed by the enormous yoga community on social media, I feel so grateful to be able to connect with yogis all over the world ✨💛 Some of my best tips for this pose: - Drop back slowly and use your breath. Inhale & lengthen your spine, exhale & come deeper down - Keep your abs engaged (core, core, core) - Push into your hands to lift your chest and heart upwards. Should feel a good stretch on your frontside - Push your hips forward, relax your shoulders, drop back head (unless you have neck pain or injuries - then don’t), also - enjoy!! 🙌🏼💫⭐️ Challenge hosts: ✨

"You will lose everything. Your money, your power, your fame, your success, perhaps even your memories. Your looks will go. Loved ones will die. Your body will fall apart. Everything that seems permanent is impermanent and will be smashed. Experience will gradually, or not so gradually, strip away everything that it can strip away. Waking up means facing this reality with open eyes and no longer turning away. But right now, we stand on sacred and holy ground, for that which will be lost has not yet been lost, and realising this is the key to unspeakable joy. Whoever or whatever is in your life right now has not yet been taken away from you. This may sound trivial, obvious, like nothing, but really it is the key to everything, the why and how and wherefore of existence. Impermanence has already rendered everything and everyone around you so deeply holy and significant and worthy of your heartbreaking gratitude. Loss has already transfigured your life into an altar." - Jeff Foster
What happens when you don’t practice ... you end up back on the a’sis’tant pull-up machine. New goal ... I guess. Boy my 10-yr old Mini Me is gonna be so disappointed in me or really excited to have beaten me in one of our many on-going gym competitions. #practiceandalliscoming#practice#practicemakesperfect
#snowga haha too much fun deciding if I should remove clothing to get this shot. I miss taking pics and videos so much 💖. Took a drive out to my favorite place after teaching classes to clear my mind. And was immediately inspired to strike a pose. A pose that @mma_yogi inspired and encouraged me to do. 🙏 Here it is to freezing and still smiling lol 😂 #practiceandalliscoming
Did you ever realize how rich we actually are? We are rich because we are full of youth. We have a whole life in front of us. We can do anything we want to because we have enough time.
We can run, jump, climb.
We have a whole life in front of us.
How must it be,having a whole life behind us?
Memories of how we ran, jumped, climbed.
Lately the thought that maybe one day i‘ll be as old as my great granny scares me. I look at her and i ask myself how i would feel being 96 years old.
If i’ll ever have to look back i want to say that i lived my life to the fullest. That travelled the world. How much time did i already waste? For example with scrolling though instagram? A LOT i guess.
I usually don‘t set any resolution but this year i did. My resolution for 2018 is spending less time in front of the screen of my cell phone. I will do every day something that i truly love and enjoy.
Who is with me 🙋🏼♀️
Ps: is there an app where i can measure how much time per day i spend on your phone?

"For most people, our mindset is not automatically one of mindfulness. We tend to live in a continual state of planning, remembering and ruminating. All of these pull us away from the present. Technology can exacerbate this, with our smart phones and social media providing even more distraction from what is happening around us. They draw us out of the present and into different times, places and people.⠀
So, why does this matter? It matters because when you are not present, you miss out on much of the experiences and sensations that life has to offer. We've got five ways you can shift your mindset to being present." - @jadelizzie⠀

“Don’t fixate on the end goal 🥅 and how it looks but enjoy the journey and how it makes you feel” ME
After teaching I thought I’d try out a move I’d seen @smashletics whose tutorials I love do this. Thought I’d give it a go!
Definitely took a note out of my own book with the quote above. I didn’t practice multiple times before filming. This is the first attempt. It was scary and exciting, full of fear and exhilarating. My feet felt like they were over my head and almost touching my chin at times. 🤣
At points I felt myself coming off the mirror and almost finding some balance! It was an exciting exploration and one I’ll be doing again this week!
Fight the fear and enjoy the journey. Welcome any tips on increasing flexibility in the back. Drills or yin exercises.
Oh and what is this asana called?

The return of #OfficeShenanigans was bound to happen. 😂. -
So I am not sure if IG is having a glitch or what ...has anyone had an unexplained large jump in followers for no apparent reason? Yesterday afternoon my account jumped up about 700 people and they are seemingly very random. Not that I’m not grateful... hello random new followers 🤗. But I am at a loss as far as the reason. -
For the record the second picture is not a filter, I actually accidentally caught the sun rays... so pretty. ☀️😍. Would @kristykalingy @karimalami @hamp407 @gibby_smalls @smashletics @zen.monkey like to join in on the office/ work place fun? Or just a plain ol #sdy is awesome too 💋💋
So many of you asked me about this pose. So I wanted to show you that it wasn’t always easy for me, I started rocking back and forward making one sec into the pose, just enough for one quick quick photo.
So don’t give up keep going with your practice and you’ll get whenever is that you want to get ❤️#progressnotperfection

#yogawithmarti : ARDHA UTTANASANA
I made a lot of tutorials on uttanasana , but never on ardha uttanasana and lately I am noticing during my classes that this is a pose a lot of people skip or do wrong, so I though to make a tutorial about it ❤️

It's funny how the brain works sometimes. During school drop off this morning, I slipped and fell (I know - again 🙄). I landed quite hard on my wrist and literally my first thought was "oh no - I won't be able to do a downdog during yoga now". Cause you know - priorities 😂😝
All from my @yogaclubbox (I'm doing an IG stories takeover on their account today 😊)
#tittibhasana We are going to break down this sequence in pictures and then link it all together. Step one: jump into pose seen above.
