What’s your favorite Thanksgiving tradition!?🍽Dr. Barnes says “After engulfing several rounds of tryptophan my family and I would spread throughout my grandparent’s house and take power naps. In case you are wondering, tryptophan is an amino acid found in 🦃 that can make you 😴 Upon waking we would walk across the street to the local bowling alley 🎳 If any of you enjoy bowling over the holidays F.I.T. wants you to stay healthy & spare your lower back(pun intended😆) Try focusing on these two things: Hip hinge instead of rounding the lower back by pushing your butt back. Decompress your spine before each frame by doing 5 standing back extensions. Bowling or not these ✌🏼 tips are important for back health. Especially the holidays when we tend to eat, sit, and sleep more than usual”
R E M I N D E R: We are closed tomorrow & Friday in observance of Thanksgiving. Have a great holiday!
There's no greater sign of Self Love then taking care of our bodies
Many things may come and go in this thing we call life but the one place you HAVE to stay until the day you pass is in your own body. So nurture it, take care of it and love it so it will pay it forward in your older years. We often associate elderly with a plethora of different ailments, illnesses or disease but many studies show that maintaining a healthy life whilst young has a strong link with good health and a decreased likelihood for developing things such as Type 2 diabetes or Arthritis later on in life. Yes please 💪🏾

HUMP DAY WORKOUT 🍑
Last week I teamed up with fellow PT’s @fafitsake & @kimhartwell and together we designed a glute workout for you 👊🏼. It seems to be the IN thing to be working hard on that PERKY AF butt, but why really is it important to work the glutes?
1) So many of our jobs require us to spend so much time sitting that our glutes “turn off” or stop firing as efficiently and effectively as they should 🆘. Once our glute muscles stop firing our hip flexors get tight and can lead to injury.
2) Working on our glutes can reduce overloading of the lower back and assist in reducing back pain/tension 🙏🏼. 3) Improve athletic performance e.g running, squats, jumping (slut dropping 😜) as well as day to day activities
4) And a PERKY butt looks good. Simple as.
A) Glute floor lift. Firstly touching the floor for 5 reps then 5 reps lifting back up just before touching floor. 3 sets. Both sides.
B) Side plank with hip abduction 3 x 10 each side.
C) Side plank raise with 2 options (lower knee bent or extended) 3 x 12 es.
A) Dumbbell Bulgarian Split Squat 4 x 10es. 90s secs rest.
A) Power bag hip thrust x 20 - raise single leg bridge x 10 es
B) Raise single leg bridge x 10 es. 1 min rest. 3 sets.
Give it a try and let us know how you get on. ENJOY 👌🏼

Episode 523: “The Physical Manifestations Of Stress” [Life Advice ⚖️]
A wise neurologist once told one of us that stress can manifest itself physically - a perfect example of this is acne. Almost everyone can relate to this, at some point in your life you had a very stressful day, and the next morning you wake up with pimples on your face‼️
Acne is a great analogy because you can see it with your own eyes 👀 But what about that nagging neck and low back pain that always seems to come around after a stressful day at your desk job? Why is it that previous areas of muscle aches, joint pain, and current injuries hurt MORE when you sleep less or you’re dealing with life’s stressors⁉️
‼️STRESS‼️ Stress, anxiety, and emotions can definitely impact how an individual experiences pain. Remember, pain is based on a perception of threat that is produced in the brain‼️Pain is an output that can be affected by good and bad experiences on a day to day basis. We see it first hand - patients come in and feel better when something exciting happens in their life and vice versa - patients tend to feel worse when stressful events are going on in their lives.
‼️Take home message‼️ - awareness is key. Dr. Adriaan Louw, a pain science PT and neuroscience researcher kept it short and sweet during a lecture ⬇️
“Pain that is understood is not be feared”
Life happens - stress is inevitable - your physical aches, pains, and previous injuries may worsen from time to time. However, being aware of what is affecting your pain may give you answers, and more importantly relief. #pain#stress#painscience

Of course the quality of your food and what you put in your body is massively important to your health and of course at times medicine is needed when you’re sick. 🤢🤕 Unfortunately, in the modern world we take way too many drugs - from Anti Biotics to over the counter pain killers. 💊💉
Our Gut generally isn’t very happy about this and it can play around with your good and bad gut bacteria. 🍏🍌🥦 From around the age of 3/4 I always had reoccurring UTI’s.
Course after course of anti biotics, long term low dosage drugs and Ultra sounds left doctors at a loss. I was just ‘unlucky’. I done everything right from cranberry pills to pro biotic pills/drinks and it made no difference.
Enter this little beauty 👆🏽 I’m on a streak of being UTI free for a few months (this is a long time for me) My moods have improved and my digestion is better. #winning
Have you tried it? Did it work for you?
Switch your tequila for a shot of this and see if it makes a change. 😉

The difference 6 months can make 📆
On the left I was in Miami. Literally the last stop of a year and a half long adventure that took me right around the world. I enjoyed the MANY sights, cultures and - evidently - cuisines this planet has to offer, and by the time this picture was taken I had literally EATEN my way through the states and become the person you see on the left.
Fast forward 6 months and I'd not only reclaimed, but ADDED to the muscle tissue I had before my little adventure, and at the same time brought myself down from a heaviest-I'd-ever-been 86kg, to a leaner and, more importantly, HEALTHIER 73kg 🙌🌿
