🍰Story of the Week 025 - Part 2 of 6🍰⠀
I approached with trepidation and said, “It's all right. Don't panic. It's all right. Don't panic.”⠀
“I’m not panicking! Just help me get the tape off!”⠀
“No, I meant me. I’m not good with, uh, crafting.”⠀
Janice gave me a look that made me stop in my tracks and she took a step back. “I’ve got it. You keep working through the first bag.”, she said and perched herself gracefully on the edge of the sofa, the offending streamer pooling around her feet. She set to work on gently extracting each fiber from the sticky tape and I peered into the pinky depths of the gift bag.⠀
An opened bag of pink balloons appeared to be the easiest and most impactful option.⠀
I plopped myself down on the floor, tipped the balloons out in front of me, and selected one to commence blowing up.⠀
Out of Janice’s concentrated silence, she said quietly with an air of disappointment, “You haven’t yet congratulated me.”⠀
A shot of my breath splurted out of the balloon and into my mouth. It hit the back of my throat and I coughed. I pinched the balloon end, smiled through the sting and pointed at the writing on the balloon, which said: It’s a girl! ⠀
“Congratulations!”, I offered, adding as much lustre to the word as I could.⠀
Janice peered at me from the couch and I felt myself shrink under her gaze. She smiled politely and nodded in an acknowledgement of thanks.⠀
“What time are your guests arriving then?”, she asked, checking her watch, “Cutting it awfully fine, if your flatmate is due back in an hour. Latecomers can ruin a surprise party. Now I’ve hosted at least a dozen surprise birthday parties and you must insist your guests arrive at least an hour and a half before…”⠀
Unable to listen to any more of this party planning rebuke, I blurted out…⠀
🍰Tune in tomorrow to find out what she said about Annabelle in Part 3 of 6!🍰⠀

With so many issues facing #oceanconservation , its tricky to know where to start and how to help. Here are TWO simple tools you can use to make a positive impact on a daily basis. 1. #Reduce , #Reuse , #RecyclePlastic . 2. Choose #SustainableFisheries .
PLASTIC: REDUCE. REUSE. RECYCLE ♻️- It is estimated that over 12 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans each year (Jambeck et al 2015). Marine animals are mostly affected by ingestion or entanglement of #plasticpollution threatening many species survival. Plastics are lightweight, strong and durable which are both the reason they are suitable for high production manufacture and detrimental to the marine environment. Once in the system, plastic debris break down into tiny particles/micro-plastics releasing harmful toxins into the ocean and animals that mistake it for food (J. Derriak 2002). By reducing the demand for plastic, and reusing items wherever possible, we start to remove the amount of plastic ending up in our oceans. Don’t buy #single -use plastic items. BYO alternative i.e. waterbottles, straws, cups, utensils, bags! Every individual #consciousconsumer choice makes a world of difference.
SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD: 🎣Overexploitation of our marine #fisheries is a problem worldwide. Fisheries induce different selective pressure on species whether directly (#over -fishing) or indirectly, as #by -catch (removal of non-target species) depending on both the method of fishing and management procedures (M. Heino 2002). Ask the question “Do you sell sustainable seafood?” If the item on the menu is caught using gill nets, long lines or bottom trawling, it is NOT #sustainable . These methods of fishing are not selective and result is huge amounts of by-catch being discarded, including sharks, skates, rays, turtles and marine mammals. Make smart choices, download @seafoodwatch app and use their consumer guide to select #seafood that is caught or farmed in ways that help promote a healthy ocean.
Mahalo for doing your part to #saveourseas .

I HATE Parsley, not sure why? Even when I was a Chef it would always be the last herb I would ever grab for 🙊🙊🙊
Until the day Jo Jo showed me how to make Chimmichirri then I knew it had one good use!
I now know and can sympathize with those that hate Coriander , which I love ❤
If tastes awful it's gotta be good for you right??? ???What foods do you despise???
