In the Antarctic Gallery you’ll enjoy learning about modern day Antarctica from treaty partners and conservation, wild life and sea life, through to a little of life at Scott Base and the experience of flying to Antarctica.
From the 1920s to ’80s, this permanent snowfield was home to a tiny ski area. Today summer visitors who reach the top on foot, instead of by chair lift, pass by a sparkling lake and streams flowing from the melting snow, which makes for a refreshing July snowball fight.

For three weeks we traveled by dog sled over the frozen sea ice of northwestern Greenland. As we neared the end of our journey, near the Inuit village of Qaanaaq, a flurry of snow covered the landscape and delighted Naimanngitsoq Kristiansen, one of our Inuit guides.
lce is melting rapidly in the Arctic and the sea ice is becoming unstable. To see images of how our dog team fell through the ice and into the freezing water, please #follow me at @CristinaMittermeier @NatGeoCreative l @NatGeoTravel I #Arctic l #snow I #snow l #dogs l #climatechange
