Here lies the SS. Maheno. She was an ocean liner build in 1905 in New Zealand. During WW-1 she was converted into a hospital ship. Her service finally came to a end in 1935 when she was washed ashore by a cyclone and remains to this day.
Shipwrecked.... #fraserisland#australia#ssmaheno ⚓️⚓️SS Maheno was an ocean liner belonging to the Union Company of New Zealand that operated in the Tasman Sea, crossing between New Zealand and Australia, from 1905 until 1935. She was also used as a ship by the New Zealand Naval Forces during World War I. She was washed ashore on Fraser Island by a cyclone in 1935.... and later used for target practice during WW2
Had three great days on Fraser Island and survived the dangerous animals 🙌
Exploring the island with 4x4 cars is a must do and the best way to enjoy the impressive nature there. Riding along the beach and driving off road through the island was fun! 👌🏼
Day 27 Fraser Island. Reenacted my tour from TWELVE years ago. Ugh I’m old. Coastal (sand) highway, viewed the #ssmaheno (which has degraded a LOT since i saw it), quick walk through the sand-based rainforest. #nodingosseen
