FAIL FORWARD! #TBT to December 2011 at the launch party for my company StreamFIT. Believe it or not, it was the first streaming fitness offering on the market as I saw that streaming was the next big thing. I raised money from 5 angel investors and got it off the ground with the help of my wife @ninagjones in just 3 months. I thought it was going to make us rich and help a lot of people. The reality was it had some highs and lows but only became a moderately successful company that I couldn't effectively scale to get my investors a return. After 4 years, it became clear that it wasn't meant to be and that my dream was a failure. I was unsalaried for most of my tenure and had burned through our savings to help keep the company afloat so we were in a really bad position personally and financially. But it's one thing to lose your own money and time and another thing to lose the money of 5 people who believed enough in you to give you their hard-earned money to build something from nothing. I've mentioned before what followed was one of the darkest and most depressing times in my life and I thought about quitting fitness and starting over with something else. But like many challenging times in life, if you are able to weather the storm and stay the course you never know what current failure sets the stage for the next big opportunity. I created hundreds of follow-along workouts that I either starred in or produced and gained an incredible amount of on-camera experience. This huge, embarrassing failure prepared me to step into the role as fitness director for the Men's Health brand for 2 years and dramatically build my following and impact millions of people all over the world. As one mentor told me during this difficult time, it's only a fucking failure if you fucking quit. Having finally made it to the other side of that depression, I'm really glad I listened to that guy. #ThrowbackThursday#StreamFIT#BJGaddour#FailForward#Entrepreneur#Startup#DontQuit#Motivation#Fitspo
#tbt to 6 years ago and walking towards the start of Racine 70.3 with @benjijayden. A brutally hot day that didn't deter Keri from finishing her race and then running back onto the course to finish with Luke Migalla and I. So thankful for friendships like these. ❤️

A scan of an old photo from my pentax K-1000 film camera with a 200mm lens. This was in Bellevue, Iowa somewhere in the 1992-94 time period, I believe. We lived in Platteville, WI at the time which makes this about an hour-long trip. With young children in the freezing cold, we didn't stay too long - just long enough to start my fascination with viewing Bald Eagles, and a yearning for better and bigger glass, both binocular and photo-graphical.
It could be argued that this is the starting point of my bird photography timeline, my actual Birding timeline started when I was about 6 yrs. old, it just wasn't called anything more special than "I like birds" at the time... #TBT
