The State Museum is collecting gently used or unused eclipse glasses during a collection drive starting Friday, Sept.1 through Monday, Sept. 4.
Guests visiting the museum during this time will receive $2 off a combo ticket to the museum for any donation of glasses.
The State Museum is also calling for organizations and large events with any left-over glasses to drop off their left-over stock on Friday, September 1 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. All eclipse glasses collected will be donated to Astronomy Without Borders for institutions and schools that are underserved in South America and Asia when the next eclipses cross those continents in 2019. #solareclipse2017#scstatemuseum#eclipseglasses#astronomy#totaleclipsecae
Yes, we’re still giddy with joy over the total solar eclipse, and yes, we’re gonna keep posting about it. #cantstopwontstop#TotalEclipseCAE // This stunning shot captured by @theshutternerd. We love how he caught the sunset and the eclipsed sun at the same time. Pretty surreal!
This week deserves reflection. Saw a total eclipse with some of my favorite people, planted my last round of summer blooms, my nephew Waylon is 8 months old, and my dearest loved one @jupibear had her baby boy, Leo. Oh and I get to spend time with @lunarfields for her birthday Sunday. Magical happenings. #cityrootsflowers#slowflowers#totaleclipseCAE
#TBT to our #Eclipse2017 feast. Our team had a blast viewing this once-in-a-lifetime spectacle – and from the looks of it, so did our guests! 😎 One of the highlights: astronaut and SC native Gen. Charles Duke stopped by for dinner [after watching the eclipse at @SCStateMuseum] amongst a packed house of locals and out-of-state visitors. Where were y’all during #TotalEclipseCAE ?
More total #solareclipse fun from the State Museum! Check out this drone footage showing staff and guests enjoying eclipse totality, along with footage from the museum's Boeing Observatory live stream. We can see astronaut Charles Duke watching from the observatory terrace and the WIS TV tent next to the museum entrance. Were you sharing the experience with us on Monday? Let us know if you can spot yourself in the crowd! #totaleclipsecae#columbiasc#southcarolina#eclipse#scstatemuseum
What a great day yesterday was! Can't believe that @columbiasc went dark for the #totaleclipse for a full 2.5 minutes. So worth it and so cool to see the State House grounds packed! 🌔🌓🌑🌗🌘🌒 #totaleclipseCAE#famouslyhot
We're still not over the cosmic magic that was the total solar eclipse in #RealColumbiaSC . Here’s a few of our favorite moments from the day we’ll never forget. Comment with your favorite #TotalEclipseCAE memory!

You can see a star, but my camera didn't capture totality well at all, lol! ⭐️ This was totally something you must see with your own eyes, and I don't think any picture could truly do it justice, so I don't feel bad about the way this pic came out because my memories will last forever. 😊 With that being said, #TotalEclipseCAE weekend was the bomb! As much as I enjoyed the different events around my hometown, I don't think anything could've been better for me than to experience something so beautiful and awe-inspiring at home surrounded by loved ones (3 generations!). Perfect arrangement for realignment and new beginnings. #GodsGlory#GreatAmericanEclipse#Eclipse2017#Coast2CoastEclipse#PathOfTotality @discover_sc @traveloregon 🌞🌛
Here's one of my favorites from yesterday. This couple had the complete set up: Lounge chairs for comfort, white sheet for shadow bands, and a big fan because it's still "famously hot" around here.
It's hard to describe what we saw yesterday, but what I can tell you, is how amazing the entire experience was. Along with the usual crowd for these events in our city, we were joined by visitors from 12 different states and 2 countries. The eclipse was something, but the people were even better.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by the #museum 's tent at the #SodaCity#Eclipse Viewing #Festival at the Columbia Speedway! We met a lot of visitors from out of state, and even some from out of the country! We hope everyone has a safe trip back home after coming out to watch this amazing and historic event! #TimeforHistory#TotalEclipseCAE
Everything happened just as the scientists said it would…the hot, humid day transitioned to a cool, breezy twilight, the sky glowed red against the low hanging clouds on the horizon, the crickets emerged and time seemed to stop for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. But nothing could have ever prepared me for the feeling of being aligned with the sun, moon and earth at one short sliver of time in our precious, fragile existence. In an attempt to describe my experience, words fail and I get chills. I will remember it. I purchased a special solar filter for my camera lens without knowing if it would produce any good results, being an amateur photographer. I really just wanted to experience the moment without fussing too much over getting a decent shot. Sometimes you just get lucky. I was fortunate enough to share the viewing experience with fellow day-trippers from Philly, George and Lisa, who I met after the flight – great people. Much gratitude to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport for letting us set up camp for the day on their grounds. Columbia, you are so warm and welcoming…I will come back again for a longer visit. One final note worth mentioning….the butterfly in the last photo landed on me after the sun re-emerged and stayed with me for 20 minutes or so, jumping from my hand to my arm to my backpack…and back onto my hand. Perhaps warming its wings after its brief twilight nap……….perhaps.
