“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it.” -Elizabeth Gilbert. .
Five days ago I was on this beach. I flew home, put lots of layers on, and haven’t taken them off. It’s a mighty effort to see sun in the winter. Sunlight makes me smile, it makes things easier. .
Sunlight here exists as friends, community, or fresh flowers in my room. We might not be able to fake sunlight, but we can create it in other ways. I will participate relentlessly and not become lax about this happiness thing, now that I am off the beach and in the cold. .
💛I make my own sunshine.💛
