Pol Roger is one of the most pre-eminent houses in Champagne, specifically Epernay. Today, it dominates the British market for it’s reputation as being Sir Winston Churchill’s choice drink. The house named their cuvée prestige, or top line, after him, and he named his favorite racehorse after the house. In fact, it is believed that Sir Churchill drank 42,000 bottles of Pol Roger throughout his lifetime. The 2008 vintage is made of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, with grapes grown from grand cru and premier cru vineyards. Since it is a Pinot Noir dominated champagne, you will find rich fruit flavor, complexity and texture. The Chardonnay offers acidity and longevity, but the Pinot Noir gives the wine the body and strength. The combination of the two, make 2008 a vintage to cherish. Post vilification, the wine was aged for eight years to allow it to develop the complexity it shows today. On the nose, it is subdued and gives off brief hints of lemony zest. The tastes are much more generous and give way to a hidden complexity with brioche, graham cracker crumble, red apple, and cherry. On the palate, there is purity of fruit, but also a power that is thorough and does not fade prematurely.
91pts | 🍇🍇🍇 | $25-30 | Took a while to hit its straps but boy it was good when it got going | Detailed notes below...
Bio-dynamically and organically grown in the vale, this was initially austere and reductive but within 24 hrs it’s was a completely different wine. Suspect give it plenty of air and watch it unfold brilliantly. Red berries, medium bodied, bright and prominent in flavour with excellent acidity and warmth through the used oak with fine tannins that are present without being overwhelming. Excellent mid weeker and 2015 looking a good vintage. No one does Grenache like the vale and @petefrase is up there as the benchmark. Well done team @yangarraestate 92pts 🍇🍇🍇
Tradition and heritage are a proud tradition at @yalumbawine, and Shaun Gibson is proud to be the 7th master cooper at Yalumba. It is a longstanding tradition and unique amongst today's winemakers. The crafting of oak barrels and coopering history at Yalumba dates back to the turn of the 20th century. With its own on-site cooperage, Yalumba is one of a few wineries in Australia, and one of a small and select group of wineries in the world, to enjoy this privilege. This allows Yalumba to select the oak, then carefully craft it into barrels to bring even more character to the wines created right here in the Barossa.⠀

Another very good wine from the Chateau Mercian stable, a Merlot from Kikyogahara, Nagano prefecture. This Merlot has the ripeness, richness, structure one comes to expect from the team at Mercian. On the pricey side at ¥12,000 at the cellar door.

I don't usually share someone else's photo, but I'm just so impressed with this one from @wineisanart 😍 .
It must have taken so much effort but the result is truly beautiful 👌😊 .
Sunday Funday with @rockrosch and fam in the house! Great wine (Matthiasson!!!!), great friends, and our first official petition for membership in the @mrtyrich BoyzWhoDrinkChardonnay Bay Area Chapter. #submittedforyourapproval#sunday#matthiasson
@VillaMariaWines 2016 Private Bin Pinot Noir: This New Zealand producer consistently delivers good bang for the buck. Their Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir selections are reliable options. This Pinot leads with bright red berry fruit, followed by crushed flowers, and mulling spice. The flavors are anchored by well-placed acidity with tart cranberries on the medium-long, pleasing finish. Villa Maria is well distributed so check your local store for this wine. It is under $20 and would make a great addition to the holiday table and beyond. #FirstSipNZ#nzwine#OpenAnotherWorld#VillaMaria#PinotNoir#wine#winelover#myvinespot
