THOUGHTS ON THE BLOG 💭 "Society has defined beauty as something that is purely external and often completely unattainable without going to drastic measures. This has lead many woman on an endless journey of fixing what is not broken." ⠀
Read more about the soul-retrieval of beauty, and how we, as women, need to support one another and work together to reclaim our power and self love. Link in bio.⠀

Wish I was going ham on some pasta & 🍷with my momma bear🐻 right now.
Instead at the gym & will go home to eat egg whites😝🙃👎🏾. #preplife
No one ever believes this is my mom sadly. Usually just because of her age... but then because we are total opposites. Blonde➡️brunette. Blue eyes➡️brown eyes. Petite➡️broad. So white she could be transparent➡️mocha. 5'5➡️5'0. Quite➡️Loud & opinionated haha!
Comment if you can tell we look alike!!!

Some light cleans today off high blocks as a primer for heavier off the floor cleans tomorrow at Strength Bananas! Working on actively bringing the bar into the front rack. If you have problems with the bar crashing on you in your Cleans you might benefit from this active rack cue as well as doing warm up sets and meeting the bar as high as able per set. You can see here that as the weight gets heavier I work to adjust where I meet the bar in height of the squat and rack position. Give it a try!

One of the most empowering things we can do for each other is allow each other the space to make our own decisions for our lives and for our bodies, free of shame and judgment.
We get to show up in the ways and in the spaces that we want to.

Many women express fear and intimidation of getting in the weight room. For most of us, we’ve been told our whole lives that it’s a place for men and we shouldn’t interfere. But can I call bullshit on that idea right now?!
Strength doesn’t belong to one gender. Muscles don’t belong to one gender. As women, we need to embrace this and get to lifting some weights.
The idea that a woman with muscles is unattractive is a made up idea that society arbitrarily decided for us. If you wanna be strong, get strong!
If you wanna have poppin muscles, get some muscles!
It’s our lives and our bodies, we can’t let others decide what’s beautiful for us. Showing up confident in your own skin is magic and it’s time we embrace it.

The first time I was introduced to the gym was when I was 16 years old. I was driven by a ridiculous brainwashed need to lose weight, so I signed myself up to work with a trainer because I believed I required the motivation to achieve my goal. Although I did learn some basic form during that time, what I didn't develop was any personal interest in being active, or any underlying reasoning for why I should be active in the first place. As a result, when my sessions ended, so did my gym time. And I convinced myself that the gym simply "didn't work" for weight loss.
Fast forward to now, 24 years old, and the gym is an embedded part of my life. Although a million things have changed since that time (including the desire to simply lose weight), something incredibly important for me was the realization that 'staying motivated' is not an achievable quality. Rather, what we mistake for motivation is simply dedicated habit. I go to the gym consistently now because I have set goals for myself, I enjoy the free mental therapy, and I am thankful for my ability to be active. The gym is something I have accepted as a part of my life, and so I priortize it. Motivation can waver as it naturally does, but a personally meaningful habit will not.
The next time you want to give up at anything, consider what it is that is inhibiting you from making your progress a habit. And then allow yourself to experiment with different routines until you find the one that just sticks. You don't need motivation to acheive consistency and success. What you need a meaningful reason why, and a routine you genuinely enjoy.
Happy Friday 💜
