MMA, Judo, and Wrestling spend much of their time in a crawling like position. This is especially prevalent in submission wrestling and Jiu Jitsu. It is important to practice resistance based crawls, as well as movement competency when crawling.

Alot is going on when you are in a grapple, let alone on the ground trying to out maneuver your opponent's body. Spending time working on crawling, and moving around objects while in various different crawling positions will have a direct carry over to ground work in MMA and the like.

However, being able to move, but having no strength when on the ground does not help, so it is important that you train with resistance for crawling as well. This can be done with weighted vests, dragging or pushing sleds. Having to crawl laterally while using a resistance band tied to a wall. Strength when on the ground can be overwhelming.

Put all this together and you have a dangerous combat athlete. Get crawling.

The truth of the matter is that what makes fitness success is the ability to look at the problem from a different perspective 🤔Instead of regurgitating what you already know and thinking negatively, stay POSITIVE and seek out new ways to do things.

💡 I love to combine accessory exercises into ab circuits. This not only gives you some extra strength work, it challenges your abs by using them to keep yourself still and stable. When you’re doing the row to kickback, there should be as close to 0 shift in your hips as possible. This is what makes you feel it in your abs.

🤔 If you’ve never felt core rows (also called renegade rows and plank rows) in your abs before, you are most likely swaying your hips too much. Either go down in the dumbbell weight you’re using or try putting your feet a little bit wider. This will create a more stable base for yourself.

Family Fitness Saturday’s

Happy Saturday, everyone! This morning, Lauren, her older brother Nick and myself went to the Riverfront YMCA to workout. We walked on the treadmill for a few minutes, then lifted some light weights. More importantly, we were there for and with one another, motivating each other through working out together and talking about different things we could do to reach our health goals. Working out together is a great method of bonding, and bring and keeping your family close and active. What’s on your agenda fir today? Take a few minutes out of your day to get the family together to go for a walk, or hit the gym. Whatever you do, keep the family close and stay active. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Rest day (and an absolutely necessary one)

From a work perspective, this past week has been hectic (to say the least) so I definitely needed some R&R this weekend.
One of my 2018 resolutions is to work more on my mindfulness. To practice truly being in, and enjoying, the moment instead of worrying about what comes next.
You need a break every now and then to really recharge your batteries in order to stay mindful. Today was this 'recharge' kind of day.
My batteries got filled to the max after spending the morning with some beautful people & having the most delicious breakfast. The rest of the day was spent chilling & watching movies under blankets with the best human. Exactly what I needed 😍

Sometimes, we think too much about quick exercise solutions that we forget there are a few easy tweaks we can do to our wardrobe, or the way we sit and walk, or just the way we smile and connect with people that can make us feel happier in the short term. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And why is this important? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because feeling happy and accomplished inside BEFORE you actually achieve the results you want from your workout and meal plans will help you stay longer and achieve more in the long run. Let's face it. Nothing worth it comes fast, and the same is true with fitness and working out. It will take time. So if you can't keep feeling good in the short term, how can you keep it going for the long haul, right? 😉 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
