A part of Western China and Central Asia used to be known as East Turkestan until sometime ago. Many of Uyghur people still dream to live in an independent country with that name. Not likely to happen.
The other Galicia: until not too long ago there were two Galicias in Europe. The one in Spain, which still exists, and the one in Eastern Europe, which used to be a place but it's not a place anymore. The old Kingdom of Galicia was set between today's Poland and Ukraine. The reasons for the namesake and the disappearance of the second Galicia can be found on Wikipedia, but it was too long to read so I'm not sure what exactly happened. I assume that the confusion for people trying to book holidays meant that one had to go, and they obviously got rid of the colder one. I could be wrong. I found this map in Amsterdam. Pretty cool.
Two big fuck off spiders in Daintree National Park, Queensland, Australia.
