Right before this photo was taken, we joked with a man about sending two women into a dark alley at night. At first, it didn’t look that safe. As a woman, you know that a predator can be hiding behind those dumpsters, in that stairwell, or beyond the shadows. This year has brought a lot of those fears to the surface, and shown all of us just how real and present the danger is. But it has also given us something else: hope. Hope that at the end of the darkness is something beautiful, like the mural we found on the other side. So here’s to coming out of the darkness, here’s to being unafraid, and here’s to hope.
